A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The last day of the year is almost upon us. I am sure that your family is looking forward to the “lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer.” I know I am, but before we close up shop, there seem to be a million details to attend to. Such as….

We have 47 families who have not turned in their summer packet. Please take care of this over the weekend and return to Mrs. Rosebrook on Monday.

Please pick up any medication that your child has stored at school. It will be disposed of after June 13th.

Somehow the Lost and Found has magically filled up again. If your child is missing any item, you might find it there.

Volunteer hour bills will be going out on Monday. If you did not complete your 30 hours, look for it in your email box. Bills must be paid before report cards and diplomas are distributed.

Also, please click here to read or reread the Uniform Guidelines. As you are shopping for shoes especially, please remember that you have a choice of 7 colors, either solid or in combination. Approved colors are red, navy blue, white, black, grey, tan or brown.

Have a great weekend.

                                                          Sincerely,
                                                          Susan

Goodbye and Good Luck!

On Thursday night, Madeleine School faculty and staff held a farewell party for Jeanette Grimaldi, Allyson Bourke and Christina Gladwin to say goodbye and wish them the best as they move on to new life adventures.

Be sure to stop by and say your own goodbyes before the end of the school year!

Thank You!

A thousand thanks to The Madeleine community for supporting the Arts - we had record attendance at Seussical Jr., and through your generosity, we collected so much food for the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.

Words cannot express how grateful I am to the Seussical families and cast. They filled my last weeks here at The Madeleine with joy through music, and their incredible work ethic. I am so proud of the cast. They prepared an amazing show!

Thank you for everything,

Jeanette Grimaldi

Leaving Before the Last Day of School?

Please Give Us Two Days Advance Notice!

If your child(ren) will not be here for the last day of school, please be sure to inform both their teacher and Angela Rosebrook at least two days in advance so all end of the year materials (art projects, school supplies, etc.) can be sent home before your family disappears for the summer.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Goodbye and Thank You to Jackie Dooris!

One of the familiar faces selling Scrip in the Garden Room on Fridays is leaving us thanks to her son's graduation.  If you see Jackie in the hallway this coming week, be sure to say goodbye.  Her smile and infectious laugh will be missed!

Stock up on Scrip for the Summer!

Think of all the food you'll be buying at Fred Meyer and New Seasons for BBQs, picnics and camping trips. Home and garden projects can get a boost with scrip from Home Depot and Lowe's.  And, of course, you'll need scrip from REI, Dick's, and Sports Authority to buy all the outdoor gear for your summer adventures.

St. Michael's Lunches: 1st Grade

Congratulations to the first grade for bringing in 232 fabulous lunches this week.  What a way to end the school year!

A big thank you goes out to all the eighth graders who generously helped Louise Hallman and me haul, lift and load heavy bags of lunches all year long.  These students were kind, enthusiastic and friendly to all our friends and volunteers at St. Michael’s.

Another thank you goes out to all the students and parents who worked so hard to bring lunches in this year; I believe this has been our most productive year to date!   Enjoy your summer, may it be free of sandwich making, or at least fewer lunches....maybe?!?

Summer Reading at Madeleine

Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge

Our school is participating in a fun summer reading project: the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. The Summer Reading Challenge unites students from around the globe in an attempt to set a new world record for most minutes read this summer! We will be looking for the top readers at Madeleine from each classroom when we come back to school in the fall! Last year we came in 2nd in the state. I know we can win 1st place this year!

Studies show that kids who read over the summer maintain the reading skills developed during the school year. This summer-long reading campaign is designed to motivate all children to read more so they maintain and improve their academic skills.

Students in grade K-2 received their login information today in Friday Folders. Grade 3-7 have been logging minutes in class and have all of their information in their school Google Drive account.

Please click here to visit Madeleine's Homepage for the link to log minutes.

Thank you so much for your family's participation.

Are you interested in doing a classroom auction project for next year?

Have lots of time to pick a project over the summer and less stress in the fall. Let us know if you are interested or have any questions by sending an email to kwilson@titanfs.comshauna.a.mohr@gmail.com or marni765@gmail.com. We will get you signed up and you can plan it at your leisure!

Interested in a Pre-K program at The Madeleine in September 2014?

www.themadeleine.edu/pre-k

Our Pre-K Planning Committee has been exploring the feasibility of a Catholic, faith-based Pre-K program at The Madeleine starting in September 2014. They’re in the initial stages of planning and are looking at a wide variety of options for the program.

They need your feedback!

If you, or someone you know, is interested in finding out more about a Pre-K program at The Madeleine, please visit www.themadeleine.edu/pre-k and fill out the brief form. For the upcoming school year, a child would need to be 4 years old by September 1, 2014. When we have more information, we will be back in contact with you.

Help Madeleine earn free money this summer!

Register your Fred Meyer Rewards card today!  If every school family registered, we would generate $19,367 per year for the school!

Here’s how the program works:

In This Week's Parish Bulletin

Download yours at www.themadeleine.edu/bulletin

Send us your 2014 high school graduates!

www.themadeleine.edu/graduates

We want to recognize all of The Madeleine’s Class of 2014 high school graduates in our bulletin this June. Whether she or he went to our parish school or not...we want to recognize each and every one!

So, please go to www.themadeleine.edu/graduates and fill out the form with your graduate’s name and school. We’ve tried to list most of the schools in the area that our kids are likely to go to, but if we missed one, just enter it in the “other” field.

We need to receive your Graduates’ names by June 14 so we may list them in our June 21 bulletin.

Receptions for Janet Satterlee and Father Kiko this Sunday

After 10:00 Mass in the Parish Hall

We have twin celebrations this Sunday!

Deacon Francisco “Kiko” Bringuela was ordained a priest on Friday, and will be celebrating his Mass of Thanksgiving at our 10:00 am Mass Sunday, June 8.

Farewell to Janet Satterlee, our Pastoral Associate, who has done so much in her short time at The Madeleine, both in the church and the school

Please join in the Parish Hall after our 10:00 am Sunday Mass this weekend for a reception in honor of Janet and Father Kiko.

Cantors and choir members wanted

A special request from our Music Director Kit Taylor and Choir Director Becky Moore: if you love to sing, we’d love to have you sing for The Madeleine! We could use your help in several areas:

Cantor at 8:00 am Sunday Mass

This volunteer position requires no previous cantoring experience...you will work with and be trained by Kit.

Singers and musicians

We welcome any new singers or musicians to be part of any of our three choir groups.

Children’s Choir: All ages welcome, but the ability to read is essential
Contemporary Choir: This upbeat group sings modern praise and worship music

Classic Choir: Traditional hymns and arrangements.
If you’re interested in joining us, or just have questions, contact Kit Taylor, ktaylor@themadeleine.edu or Becky Moore, bmoore@themadeleine.edu.
