A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

While many of you will be standing in the rain this weekend watching soccer or football games, I will be with my family, including 4 grandchildren, standing in the rain, picking grapes. My son has a small vineyard outside of Salem and our second harvest is upon us. Then we all will travel to Corvallis to watch my beloved Colorado Buffaloes play the Beavers. I am sure it will be a lesson in humility for the CU alumni who will be attending. The point I am trying to make is…even in adversity, if your family is with you, life is good!

The Madeleine family has certainly rallied around our Annual Fund. Thank you for the marvelous participation and generous contributions that allowed us to not only meet, but exceed, our goal with a total of $25,101! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Excitement around the upcoming Auction is also in the air. Donations are due on Tuesday, October 1st and if you are stumped for an idea, go to the website or call for guidance. Cash is also welcome to help underwrite the cost or put toward auction items. Again, check to see how you can help.

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Susan

We Did It!
$25,000 Annual Fund Match Goal Met!!

Yellow Star

Three gold stars to the parents, students, faculty and staff, grandparents, alumni, and parishioners for meeting the Inaugural Annual Fund goal and obtaining the full match. Thanks to your generosity, we actually exceeded our goal and raised $25,101 with a school-wide participation rate of 37%.star

Faculty and staff led the way with 92% participation.  Second grade won the race between the grades with 59% participation.  Check the easel in the front hallway for the complete participation rates for each grade.

Yellow Star

The funds raised by the Annual Fund will be applied to both the Endowment and Tuition Assistance Funds in order to keep Catholic education affordable for all Madeleine families.  One hundred percent of the donations will be matched by the OCF Joseph E. Weston Public Foundation.

Introducing . . . Madeleine Shout Outs!

This year each student will have an opportunity to "shout out" something that he or she is proud about. It could be about something in school or out of school. Students will be sharing their shout outs with the community by decorating a paper cut out of a megaphone that exclaims what they want to share. These megaphones will be displayed for a month in the bulletin board across from the library. We hope you have time to enjoy listening to all the shout outs!

Blessing of the Animals

Friday, October 4th at 2:45pmMC900357975[1]

Bring your pet(s) or a picture of your pet(s) for a blessing as part of Madeleine School's celebration of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi!

We will gather at the turn around driveway (in between the rectory and the gym entrance) at 2:45 pm.

To ensure the safety of everyone gathered, as well as the safety of everyone’s pets, dogs need to be on leashes and other pets should be brought using appropriate means (cages, travel carriers etc.).  Dogs that do not enjoy the company of other dogs should be left at home.

Bring Your Non-Perishable Food

for St. Vincent de Paul

The Madeleine School celebrated the life and mission of Saint Vincent de Paul on Thursday, September 26th, 2013, at the 2:00 PM School Mass.

In fellowship with this great and good servant of God, and to assist our local St. Vincent de Paul ministry, students are encouraged to continue bringing non-perishable food items (no glass containers, please) to their classrooms from September 30th through October 16th  - World Food Day. Please help The Madeleine Community “respond to the call to serve others” as indicated in our Spiritual School Wide Learning Expectation.

Thank you!

St. Francis Pledge

Families are encouraged this weekend to take the St. Francis Pledge to Care for Creation and the Poor, sponsored by the Catholic Coalition on Climate Change.

The Pledge offers a concrete way to live out our faith by caring for God's Creation and the poor in response to the challenges of global climate change.

The Pledge asks us to PRAY and reflect on the duty to care for God's creation; LEARN about and educate others on the causes and moral dimensions of climate change; ASSESS how people contribute to climate change; ACT to change our choices and behaviors; and ADVOCATE for Catholic principles in climate change discussions and decisions.

For more information and to take the pledge, log on to www.CatholicClimateCovenant.org.  Thank you from the Care for Creation Committee.

St. Michael's Lunches

The 6th grade did a bang up job bringing in sack lunches this week.  The total number was 163 and the volunteers were thrilled!  Irvan was making soup in the kitchen while a line of guests quickly formed beyond the double doors of St Michael’s basement.  Soup and sandwiches are the perfect meal for these cold wet September days.  Thank you to all the students and parents who generously help feed our Portland community; we've already delivered 461 lunches to St Michael's this school year!
