A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedules to come to Back to School Night. I have been going to this event, either as a principal, teacher, or parent for over 41 years. (How can that be when I am only 39 years old???) And some years I had children in three different schools so I got to go three times each September. This event always signals the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year that holds much enthusiasm and promise. People are excited to be renewing friendships, reaching out to new members of the community, learning about the academic goals for the year, and planning events and activities to support their children. Back to School Night is the kick-off event that sets the tone for the coming year. We are so blessed here at The Madeleine to have such positive energy. It is the thing that will sustain us as the year unfolds and challenges appear, as they always do.

A big thank you to our teachers and staff for informative classroom presentations. To Father Mike for leading us in prayer, his welcome to all of our new parents, and for reminding us that everyone who steps foot on the campus is part of The Madeleine. To Lynn Robinson for promoting the Annual Appeal and demonstrating our interactive webpage. To our Parents Club President, Lisa Luna, and our School Advisory Council Chairman, Lee Fiedler for sharing their goals and introducing their council members. To our Auction chairs, represented by Dirk Fournier, for sharing the highlights of the upcoming event and getting us focused on our November event. And …….to all of you who have entrusted your children to our care. Let’s keep the positive home-school connection strong for the good of our children.

This Sunday our teachers will be honored at the 10:00 Mass for their role in the catechesis of your children. Then there will be a wonderful Parish Picnic with lots of great food and activities for the family. If you attend another church service, please join us afterward. This parish event is open to all in our school community

              Have a great weekend.

                                                           Sincerely,
                                                           Susan

Come one and all to the Parish Picnic this Sunday

All are welcome to attend our annual Parish Picnic, Sunday, Sept. 15 after 10:00 Mass. Food and drink, games and fun for the entire family. Mass is in the church; the picnic will be in the Parish Courtyard and parish grounds immediately afterward. Please bring a dessert to share!

Volunteers needed for Parish Picnic

Middle school parents: The Care for Creation Committee needs 3-5 volunteers to help with the parish picnic this weekend.  We are hoping for one student prior to the start of the event to make signs. We need others to put out bins, help attendees with recycling, and then put away bins afterward.

Interested? Contact Shauna Mohr at shauna.a.mohr@gmail.com.

Schoolwide Annual Fund Participation Rate
Hits 21%

Attention Parents: You have earned a big, gold star for your participation in the Annual Fund Campaign so far this year.  But, at a 21% participation rate, that means only one in five has participated.  The second grade has issued a participation challenge to the other classes.  Can your class become the leader by next week?  Can you help the school earn another star by participating?

The funds raised by the Annual Fund will be applied to both the Endowment and Tuition Assistance Funds in order to keep Catholic education affordable for all families.

Thanks to the generosity of alumni, current parents, grandparents, faculty and staff, and parishioners, the Inaugural Annual Fund Campaign has raised almost $18,000 toward our $25,000 goal!

Our goal is to raise $25,000 by September 30, 2013, so there is still time if you have not yet had the opportunity to participate in the Annual Fund Campaign.  One hundred percent of your donation will be matched by the OCF Joseph E. Weston Public Foundation, and 100% of your donation is tax deductible.

Click Here to Make a Donation to the Annual Fund

During the Annual Fund Campaign, we are asking everyone—families, alumni, parishioners, faculty, staff, grandparents and friends—to contribute. What is most important is your participation, not the amount you are able to give. Every level of support is valued and appreciated.

What’s Cool About Our School?

The Bridge Program Volunteers!

This summer the Bridge Program volunteers spent time sending emails, making phone calls, and hosting playdates and BBQs to welcome new families to the school.  These brave souls even took on the task of trying to explain the uniform policy on shoe color and answering other assorted questions.

A huge thank you to Julie Baldwin, Amy Boots, Joanna Curley, Teal Davison, Caryn Fiedler, Debbie Kielty, Tonia Kovtunovich, Annette Magner, Libby North, Emily Pennick, Tessa Siegel, and Katherine Wilson!

If you were the recipient of a warm welcome to the school, consider volunteering for the Bridge Program by contacting Caryn Fiedler at fiedler3fam@gmail.com.

That class will be on Tuesday from 4:15-5. Our elite team of Spanish teachers are energetic, fun, and highly trained in fostering emerging language skills. Our students speak in phrases from the very first class! Click here to register. Classes start next week so hurry, hurry, hurry!

Thank you, Fontaine, for your years of service!

This morning, Fontaine Roberson donated her time training Caryn Fiedler on the ins and outs of publishing the weekly Footnotes, then offered to sit at the front desk so that Angela could get a lunch break. This is a perfect example of Fontaine’s commitment and dedication to the school for the last two years. In addition to the Footnotes, she updated our website and new parent marketing materials, and was instrumental in implementing our Playground for All Players Project. Most importantly she kept Rich and I laughing with her keen sense of humor. On behalf of the entire faculty and staff thank you for everything. We will miss having you around!

Please contact Kelly Johnson before posting your sign. Unauthorized signs will be removed and recycled or disposed of.
