A Note from Susan
An Incentive for 100% Auction Participation
It is the sincere hope of Fr. Mike and me that every school family who is not working the auction is attending the auction. This is our biggest and longest-running fundraiser, and a glittering, shining evening! So please arrange some child care, and be ready to celebrate everything that is great about The Madeleine School, and the community that supports it.
As I mentioned at Back to School night in September, getting your required Auction volunteer hours may be a challenge this year due to the new format. Therefore, we have dropped the requirement that 8 of your 30 total hours be spent on the auction. And, as a special incentive to get you to the Auction, you will receive credit for 5 volunteer hours (10 per couple) for buying your ticket and attending the auction. Fulfilling your volunteer commitment has never been so much fun!
Catholic Identity Survey
Each year, as part of our accreditation through the Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA), we are asked to assess two of the eight standards that serve as benchmarks for accredited schools. We are given indicators from WCEA and asked to survey our shareholders on their perception on how we are doing. This year the standards relate to our religion curriculum (Standard #3) and our service outreach (Standard #6). To reach as many Madeleine shareholders as possible, we have used Survey Monkey to collect and tabulate the data.
Because of the diversity of our Madeleine community, we know that not everyone is knowledgeable on certain aspects of the school curriculum. Please do not let that deter you from participating in the survey. Simply check the “Don’t Know” response for questions that you are not familiar with.
To take the survey, click here. The survey will be active until November 1st. Thank you for your involvement in our accreditation process.
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Susan

Welcome New Employee
Anthony Mosley is our new Custodian, and helping everyone with everything it seems is his gift. He has lived in the Portland area for 10 years, and worked in both non-profits and sterile work environments. He is originally from Texas, where he says, with a smile, he was a pig and dairy farmer. He is active in his Pentecostal congregation as a music leader. He works full time from Noon until 8 pm taking care of things in all of our buildings and helping Gary out with maintenance issues. Be sure to stop and introduce yourself when you see him in the hallway!
North Parking Lot Gardening-
This Saturday, Oct. 19th
It is time for the Care for Creation Committee’s monthly morning of gardening at the North Parking lot. We are continuing to work every 3rd Saturday of the month from 8am-noon, and we would love to have you join us. There are a variety of things that need to be done, from weeding and pruning to moving paths. Come for a short time or come for the whole time. All and any help will be appreciated and counts towards your community hours.
Please bring the tools that you will need, such as shovels, yard brooms, wheel barrows, etc.
Thanks for volunteering to help make our grounds better.

Counselor's Corner
Click here to read about the curse of perfectionism.
In order to support and improve the whole school community, the School Counselor will be a regular contributor to Friday Footnotes. We are committed to collaborating with you, as primary educators of your children, to encourage their spiritual, intellectual, physical and emotional growth.
Safe Doors = Safe Children
For the safety and security of our students, please remember to only use the main door of the school when coming and going, and do not ask another parent to let you in through a side door.
It is everyone's responsibility to keep our children safe!
St. Michael's Lunches: 3rd grade
A huge thank you to all the third grade families who brought in 167 sack lunches this week. The volunteers at St. Michael’s continue to be so impressed with the generosity of our Madeleine community. Please remember to label your lunches with the protein that’s in the sandwich (turkey, bologna, ham, tuna or PB&J etc). This makes sorting much easier for all of us.
Our grand total for the school year is 907 sack lunches. Hip Hip Hurray!
