A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

According to my calendar, we only have seven weeks of school left. Is that possible?? Doesn’t it seem that Christmas vacation was just a few weeks ago? The old adage of “time flies when you are having fun” certainly applies here.

I think our Grandparents and Special Friends had a wonderful time yesterday. The school was abuzz with happy chatter as the students led their guests around the building and then over to Mass for a rousing post-Easter liturgy. I received many compliments from the grandparents, but the thanks go to Anne Gaber, Tessa Siegel, and their volunteers for a lovely tea, to the 6th grade for preparing the readings and acting out the Easter story, to the choir for leading us in song, and to Father Mike, Deacon Tim, and a surprise visit from Fr. Peter for gathering us in prayer. Working in a Catholic school is the best!

Along with the seven remaining weeks come many deadlines that need to be met for the coming year. Reminders include:

The fun continues next week with the beginning of Spirit Week. Each day has a different theme developed by our Student Government. Details are in the very next announcement below.

Sincerely,
Susan Steele

Spirit Week

April 28 - May 2

Student Government has planned Spirit Week to build up excitement and energy for the Jogathon -- and it begins Monday! See the schedule below.

The Big Day is Almost Here!

Friday, May 2

In the final week leading up to the Jogathon, here are a few things to remember:

This Week’s Challenge

Cool About Our School

Fourth grader, Tessa N., donated her winnings from the Money Jump back to the Jogathon!  That’s the spirit!

Only one week left until the Jogathon, so use Tessa’s generosity to inspire youself to get out there and secure just a few more pledges.  All the money raised goes directly into the school’s operational budget for the day to day support of the students.

Three Cheers for Anne Gaber & Tessa Siegel!

More than 150 attend the Grandparents & Special Persons Tea!

There was a buzz in the air as the students eagerly awaited the arrival of their grandparents and special people.  Proud little faces showed off special projects and led tours around the school.  All of this was made possible by Tessa Siegel, Anne Gaber and their volunteers who coordinated this eagerly anticipated day.

Thank you again for organizing such a great event!

Parish Affiliation Form

Due Wednesday, April 30th

Families who are registered and active in a parish may request a subsidy to lower their tuition rate.

If you would like to request the “in-parish” rate, you need to fill out the Parish Affiliation Form, and give it to Fr. Mike (or your parish priest if you are registered in another parish) for approval.  These forms are due back to the parish office by April 30th. If you have any questions about this process, please do not hesitate to give Susan Steele a call.

Click here to download the Parish Affiliation Form.

Art Show Needs Your Help!

There are only a handful of days remaining to prepare student art for the Art Show, and as I write this Thursday morning, no parents have picked up any packets.

Packets are on the table outside the art room along with a sign out sheet. They contain everything you need plus instructions for mounting the work on black paper. You can work on them at home or at The Madeleine.

I would like to have all art mounted and returned by Thursday, May 1st. The big set up day is Monday, May 5th. I will be on hand that day starting around 8 a.m., and will stay until the job is done. Take down day is Friday, May 9th. I will, again, be there around 8. Art needs to be removed from the walls and sorted into student portfolios.

And, of course, please come and enjoy the Art Show on Thursday, May 8th from 6 to 8.

Thank you so much!

Do you need a few more volunteer hours?

Parents Club needs a small amount of help. We need just a couple of people to help provide snacks and treats for the Art Show on Thursday, May 8th.  It entails a quick trip to the store, setting up serving tables, making coffee, and cleaning up at the end of the show.

If you're interested, please contact Lisa Luna.

Gardening this Saturday at the North Parking Lot

Saturday, April 26th: 8am - Noon

Saturday is our monthly work day and we would love to have you join us.  There are a variety of things that need to be done, from weeding and pruning to moving paths.  Come for a short time or come for the whole time… All and any help will be appreciated and counts towards your community hours. This is one of the last opportunities for volunteer hours to count towards this school year!

Please bring the tools that you will need, such as shovels, yard brooms, wheel barrows, etc.

Thanks for volunteering to help make our grounds better!

Questions? Contact Sara Allen at seamagoo@hotmail.com.

May is Walk + Bike Challenge Month!

Start dusting off those bikes, scooters and skateboards and get ready to participate in Walk+Bike Challenge Month. Gather friends and neighbors and ride or walk to school together.  Thanks for helping encourage healthy habits in our school community -- we couldn't do it without you!

St. Michael's Lunches: 7th Grade

The 7th grade brought is 127 lunches this week, that’s great work especially after celebrating our long Easter weekend.  Thanks to all the students and families who continue to put together lunches throughout the year, we are eight months into it and still going strong!

Teachers and parents perform a critical role in the lives of students. Parents entrust teachers with the bodies, minds and feelings of their children.  And we love parents for the role you play in helping your children rise to new levels.

A heartfelt "Thank you" goes out to teachers and parents for being positive role models to children and for emulating a Shining Star. Some days are not easy, but you put your game face on and shine into their lives.

Each of you is a Shining Star.
