A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Another Catholic Schools Week is drawing to a close and we have so many people to recognize for making it a great experience. Thank you for the many expressions of appreciation on Staff Appreciation Day. Our wonderful Parents Club, under the leadership of Lisa Luna, gifted the staff with movie tickets, cake pops, and a delicious lunch. We also had an afternoon snack cart come around for a little “pick me up” that was quite popular. (More than one teacher thinks we should do it every day.) Our Friendship Families had fun during Tuesday’s rotation activity. It was interesting to note that our students know the names of teachers’ children, pets, and favorite hobbies, but no one knew who had met Bradley Cooper, Matt Damon, Michael Jackson, or Elvis. The week ended with a blessing and cheer for Fr. Mike and Deacon Tim to thank them for all they do. Another reason to celebrate CSW is the community of parent/guardians who support The Madeleine.  I hope you enjoyed our small token of appreciation—coffee, donuts, and hard rock candy that stated “Madeleine Parents Rock.”

I am especially thankful for the group of parents from our 3rd grade class, who have stepped up to chair next year’s auction. After two evening meetings, much discussion, and many questions, we have committed auction chairs in place. Please give a round of applause to……Lucas Newman, Dunetchka Otero, Charity Adams. Our Development Director, Lynn Robinson, will help with Auction Operations along with Karoline Ashley and Lennie Supnet. We also have almost all the sub-chair positions filled from both the 3rd grade and returning veterans. I would say that we are in good hands for next year’s event. Details to follow.

Have a great weekend.

                                                                  Sincerely,

                                                                  Susan

St. Michael's Lunches: 8th Grade

The eighth grade students did an outstanding job this week, bringing in 215 sack lunches!  Sometimes it’s easy for the middle school students to lag in lunch prep, but not this class, they rolled their sleeves up and fed many hungry people.  A big thank you to our eighth grade volunteers and Louise Hallman, our fabulous parent volunteer, for making sure the lunches were delivered to those in need.

art

Greetings from the Art Room,

If only I had more display space!  Your young artists have been creating up a storm and the bulletin boards in the halls by the Art Room and library are a lively, revolving art gallery.  Did you catch the eighth grade self-portraits and the sixth grade Kaleidoscope Name Designs?  They have made room for the newest batch of art.  Up now are Kindergarten's Mixed Media Snowmen.  Chinese New Year. Year of the Horse, gallops in with a wide variety of striking horse images from fourth grade.  Third grade birngs a breath of almost spring with mixed media Chinese Porcelain Vases filled with cheery flowers.  Fifth grade is in the swim of the New Year celebration with colorful carp windsox, representing hard work and determination.  First grade Penguins just have to get a spot!   So does the dazzling Marbled Paper that seventh grade has been working on.  And just wait 'til you see the Infinity Boxes that the eighth grade have been making.  Next on the list, at the request of Father Mike, will be Mardi Gras masks for all 250 or so students.  Be sure to stop by and enjoy the displays.

                                                                Regards,

                                                                Mrs. Galash
