A Note from Susan
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I want to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope your days are filled with joy as you celebrate the birth of our Lord. The holiday season gives us many reminders to be thankful for all the gifts God has bestowed on us. Our Madeleine community is certainly one of the gifts in my life and I am so grateful. Sincerely,
Susan
3rd grade Brings in 327 St. Michael's Lunches!
The third grade outdid itself this week and brought in 327 well packed lunches. One very industrious family even made 170! The volunteers at St. Michael’s were thrilled with our generosity and this large number of lunches will provide many meals for the next few days. A big thank you to all those who continue to bring in socks, hats and gloves; those items make the world of difference to our friends who dine at St. Michael’s. Please remember that St. Michael’s has a free food “store” in their basement and any food or canned goods are always appreciated. Merry Christmas Madeleine families, because your kindness, many folks will have full bellies and warm feet this week.
Advent Service Project Results
Thank you for participating in our school-wide Advent Service Project. With money and book contributions, we were able to donate 111 new books to the Community Transitional School located in NE Portland. Thank you for helping to spread Christmas cheer to children right in our community!
Another Angel Earns Wings!
Thank you to an anonymous donor who has given $200 to be split evenly between 8th grade, science, art, and music.
You too can become a Christmas Angel by funding or finding a gift from the "Teacher Wish List." These items are not in the budget, but would enhance the classroom. Thanks to the many angels last year, donations to the teacher wish list provided hundreds of dollars in classroom supplies! Click here to see the teacher wish list. Earn your wings this year and join the many angels in our midst! Questions? Contact Lynn Robinson at lrobinson@themadeleine.edu.
Christmas Tree Recycling Event @ The Madeleine
Local Cub Scout Pack 47 will be holding their annual Christmas Tree recycling event at The Madeleine School on Saturday, January 4th between 9am and 3pm. All donations will benefit Pack 47, sponsored by The Madeleine Parish. Please remove all decorations and tinsel. Suggested donation is $10/tree. Please find us at The Madeleine School’s parking lot on NE 24th Avenue & NE Klickitat Street.
Recycle Christmas Cards and Old Calendars To Help Art Class
If you have Christmas cards and old calendars to retire/recycle when the holidays are over, the Art Room might be able to use them. Cards featuring angels, nativity scenes, and similar images are particularly useful. Calendars with beautiful photos, especially of wildlife, nature, and art works make great visual aids for student work.
Thank you and have a beautiful Christmas season!

On Christmas Eve, please be at the church in costume no later than 3:30 pm—although you may want to come earlier to get the best seats to see all the action! Questions? Contact Tina Hanselman, 503-281-577 ext 27.
Parish Directory—not able to get photographed?
Submit a photo by January 10
We thank everyone who was able to schedule an appointment and have your photo taken for our upcoming Parish Photo Directory.
If you were unable to make it in, please submit a photograph for the directory.
Here are a few guidelines:
Please select a photo that:
- Is in portrait orientation (Taller than it is wide)
- focuses as tightly on the people as possible with minimal background (We want to see you, not your vacation destination!)
- Has a simple, uncluttered background
- Is at maximum resolution. If you’re sending by email or from your phone, choose “Actual Size” when prompted

Parish News U Can Use
Little Church
We need potty trained two year olds through kindergartners to participate in Little Church. This is a fun program that runs on the first and third Sunday every month at 10:00am Mass. There is no fee. It is a co-op parent led program, and is super easy to lead. If you can run a play date at your house, then you can volunteer in Little Church. We have a pretty faithful little group of seven children, but would like to add more students to the group. Drop in and check us out. It’s fun.
Confirmation Classes Start January 12
Signups for our 2014 confirmation class are now open. Again this year, it
will be held right here at The Madeleine!
Confirmation will be held May 6, and
classes will begin on January 12 (one parent per student will need to attend
this first meeting), but please sign up soon as we need a good count as to
how many people will be in the class. Any student not registered by February
2 will be placed into next year’s cohort. Cost is $90 (not due until April).
To
receive the sacrament, you must be at least 14 years old AND a freshman in
high school. Adults are welcome, too. Questions? Contact Tina Hanselman. Registration
form is available online at www.themadeleine.edu/confirmation or through the
Parish Office.
