A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Susan is away attending the annual Principals' Retreat, so she has asked me to draw your attention to a few items for this week's Footnotes.

The highlight for many next week will be the Mardi Gras Mass on Tuesday at 6:00pm followed by dinner and festivities in Parish Hall for the adults and up in the gym for the kids. Costumes, masks and funny hats are encouraged!  Food and drinks will be available for everyone.  No need to RSVP, just show up and have fun!

And, don't forget that school will have a late start on Wednesday. YDP opens at 9:30am, school doors open at 10:20am and school begins at 10:30am.

While Susan was sorry to miss Science Night, she wants to extend a big thank you to Ms. Yuhas for organizing the event again this year with the able help of the middle school students.

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Caryn Fiedler

(on behalf of Susan)

AUDITIONS for the spring musical will take place on Friday, March 7, 2014, from 3:30-5:30 pm in the Old Church.  6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are encouraged to come and “play” as we begin this new artistic adventure.

We are once more blessed to work with "Second Stage" of The Young People's Theatre Project (YPTP). This year, our production will be Seussical Jr., directed by Molly Williams Stuckey. If you would like more information about YPTP, please visit its site at http://www.yptproject.org.

I hope that many of our middle school students will take advantage of this enriching opportunity. More specific information will be sent home with interested middle school students this week.

6th Grade Visits the Chinese Gardens

On Friday February 14th, the 6th grade students visited the Lan Su Chinese Gardens in downtown Portland. They have been studying ancient China, and used their knowledge to reflect upon their learning in the tranquility of the gardens. The students had some wonderful docents who highlighted Chinese history and culture. At the end of the tour, they had some time for friendly games of ping-pong, Chinese checkers, mahjong, and lantern riddles. Thank you to all of the parents who chaperoned for this event. Happy Year of the Horse!

Kelly Johnson moving on
to new position in Archdiocese office

It is with sadness that we announce our business manager, Kelly Johnson is leaving The Madeleine to take a position as Office Supervisor, Clergy Personnel Department in the Archdiocese Pastoral Center.

In her time here, Kelly has moved The Madeleine forward immensely. She reworked many of our financial and budgeting systems, oversaw improvements in our technology efforts, expanded our campus security systems, and that’s just a partial list.

But most of all, her legacy will be remembered in the many improvements she spearheaded to our buildings and facilities. Most visibly, she managed the long-overdue repainting of our entire campus, not to mention an expansion of the school’s Art room, to name a few. She also laid the groundwork for several other projects, most importantly a new boiler for the church and rectory and the updating of the kitchen in the Parish Hall.

We will miss Kelly, but we are grateful that her skills will be put to use for the betterment of our Archdiocese. She will still be around The Madeleine for a time as she transitions into her new position.

Thank you, Kelly, for your dedicated, tireless service and lasting legacy to The Madeleine community.

Adult Religious Education Classes

These classes, originally designed for the parents of our First Eucharist students, are a great way to reconnect with your faith, or to learn more about the Church.

Please join us in the Parish Hall, 9:15 am

New online ministry scheduling system in place

See live schedule at www.themadeleine.edu/ministries

For the past several months, we have been scheduling our minsters for weekend Masses using our new online scheduling system.

This system has many advantages:

All ministers should have received an introductory email from the system with a Web address to login and update your profile. If you have not yet done so, please do so as soon as possible. Also, this is where you would go to request a change in your scheduled dates.

The schedule is always available online at www.themadeleine.edu/ministries. If you have any questions on the sysstem or how to use it, please contact Celina Kishna at ministries@themadeleine.edu.
