A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back! I hope you and your family had a blessed and restful Christmas vacation. With four grandchildren under the age of 5 running around our house, we were kept busy waiting for Santa. It was so much fun, but returning to routine has its benefits, too.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I have heard “I can’t believe it is 2014 already!” Wasn’t the Y2K scare just a couple of years ago? It hit home again when I realized that most of our students weren’t even born in 2000. Well, you can’t turn back time, so we must get on with the tasks at hand.

Today we are sending home the re-registration forms for the 2014-2015 school year. January is a courtesy re-enrollment month for currently enrolled families. You will find a re-registration form for next year in your child’s Friday folder. You can also click here to download one. There is also one on our website under the forms section. Every student who is returning needs to fill out this form each year. If you have another child who will be joining us next year, please include his/her name on the form, too. The book/material fee of $200 is also due. (The fee increases to $250 after Feb. 1st.) This covers the cost of consumable workbooks and materials, technology upgrades, increased security costs, and the rental of textbooks. The class party fee is also included in this charge.

You may wonder why we need to re-enroll students in January for the coming year. Two reasons…..Our Open House is scheduled for February 3rd and 4th and we need to have an idea of how many openings we have to offer. Also, we will begin the budgeting process in February and our enrollment directly affects our costs. Open enrollment begins in February and that means first come, first served.  If we do not have a re-registration form from your family, we will assume you do not plan on returning to The Madeleine next year.

Those families who would like to apply for financial aid for the coming year may begin that process immediately. Applications are available online at.factstuitionaid.com. Applications are due by March 15, 2014 to be eligible for Archdiocesan aid.  Applications are processed by FACTS Tuition Aid and allocations are determined by the number of people applying and the available pool of money. If you have any questions about this process, please do not hesitate to give me a call.

Have a great weekend.

                                                                  Sincerely,

                                                                  Susan

Save the Date: Parents Club Education Series

Wednesday, January 15th @ 7pm

Dr. Kathy Masarie, a former pediatrician who currently works as a parent and life coach, will be speaking at Madeleine on "Face to Face: Cultivating Kids’ Social Lives and the Brain Revolution."

Never before have parents faced the challenges they face today: a culture and media at odds with our values and what we want for our kids. Come hear how we can push back on these cultural messages and screens and focus on what matters most. Learn about interpersonal neurobiology and how brains grow and rewire for healthy learning. Hear what we all can do to support today’s children to be empathic, resilient, caring, connected, and healthy in their relationships with others; ingredients that lead to a future wholehearted life.

Click here to read a short bio on Dr. Kathy Masarie.

St. Michael's Lunches: 2nd Grade

A huge SHOUT OUT to the second grade who brought in 319 beautifully packed sack lunches this week!  That is an impressive number especially when you consider that we are all a bit wobbly and out of lunch making practice this first week back at school.  The volunteers at St Michael’s were deeply touched by our generosity which will help feed many guests for a few days.  What a fantastic way to begin 2014!

As we all get back into the rhythm of school days, it's a great time to think about safety.

2) Please refrain from parking and/or stopping in the area between the driveways to the two parking lots.

It is everyone's responsibility to keep our kids safe!  Thanks!
