A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Today has been “All Auction, All Day!” So many parents doing all kinds of tasks in preparation of tomorrow’s auction.  I know it will be a grand and glorious event.

All of the activity today is a reminder of the wonderful school community we have and sometimes take for granted. For example, the teachers were treated to delicious food during Parent-Teacher Conferences, lovingly prepared by our school families. Many thanks to Debbie Ryan, our head room parent, for arranging these wonderful meals. Please know how valuable and appreciated you are for all the things you do to make The Madeleine such an amazing place.

Amazing is too humble of a word to describe the efforts of our auction chairs, Dirk Fournier, Efrain Lopez, Susie Andersen, Anne Gaber, and Shelby Walker, to make this a “Night To Remember.”  Along with their many sub-chairs, they have worked so hard to bring about many innovations for a successful evening. As in years past, we have no idea how many hours of planning, organizing, and worry go into an event of this magnitude. I hope you will be with us tomorrow night as we celebrate our Madeleine community.

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Susan

Greetings from the Art Room!

The Labyrinth is open! As part of my five-year plan for the Art program at The Madeleine, my goal is to include art that is accessible to the surrounding community. The eighth grade class has been learning about and working on classical Labyrinths since September. They learned how to draw them, have each been making a pebble mosaic Labyrinth, and for the community portion, planned, plotted, and painted a 14” Classical Seven Circuit Labyrinth on the asphalt just outside the main entrance to the school. The Labyrinth is intended as a space for contemplation, prayer, meditation, and being present in the moment. While many young people may find it irresistible, it should be walked only. It is not for games of tag, skate boards, or bikes. This is for safety reasons as well as to preserve the art and honor its purpose.

If you haven't had the chance yet, stop by the hallway outside the Art room to see all 250 pieces for art created for the Kids Kreations auction art note cards. New art is waiting to go up, so these will come down all too soon.

Enjoy!

Mrs. Galash

St. Michael's Lunches: 1st and 2nd grades

Last week, the second grade class knocked the socks off of the volunteers at St Michael’s.  They brought in 325 well packed sack lunches!  That’s a record for this school year.  Thank you for taking the time and effort to construct all those bags of kindness.  I fear we may need borrow the Madeleine van if deliveries continue to grow!   This brought the grand total of lunches for the school year to 1,232.

This week, the first grade brought in a huge number of sack lunches this week -- 305 to be exact!  Thank you so much for all your dedication to feeding the hungry.  As the winter months hit us, a full belly will help to keep our friends warm and healthy.  If you are interested, now is the time to donate warm socks, gloves or hats.  Soon, the rain will be here and warmth will be a big concern for those in need.

Our school year total is now 1,537 sack lunches!
