A Note from Susan
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Students in grades 3-8 took the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) a few weeks ago and the individual test reports are going home today. Also included is a letter to help decipher the scores which can be challenging for the “non-statisticians” among us. Please remember that standardized tests are normed across a wide population of students, and while they are helpful in looking for growth and trends, they are only one “piece of the puzzle” in your child’s education. If you have any questions regarding the test results, please do not hesitate to contact me or your child’s teacher.
On another note…..I was updating our Volunteer spreadsheet which tracks all the Called to Protect classes and online videos that must be viewed in order to work with children in our school and parish. There are quite a few parents who are not up-to-date with the required video for this year (Preventing Sexual Activity Between Young Children) and, unfortunately, will not be allowed to volunteer after December 1st. The problem can be easily remedied by finding out what videos need to be viewed and then finding a computer to do it. Click here to view the steps needed to log on.
With the return of cold weather and the first hint of snow, it is timely to review what we do if a storm hits. All you need to remember is that we follow Portland Public Schools in weather-related decisions. If they cancel school, we cancel school. If they call a 2-hour delay, we have a 2-hour delay. Our morning YDP before school program would start at 9:30, instead of 7:30. The only discrepancy to this involves our students who have Spanish at 7:45. Their class is cancelled for the day because the Spanish teachers are at other schools at 9:45. So now let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…..
Enjoy your weekend!
Sincerely,
Susan

St. Vincent de Paul Annual Food Drive
Student Government is coordinating with the parish’s St. Vincent De Paul chapter to make this year’s annual food drive a tremendous success. On Saturday, November 23rd at 9:00, volunteers are needed to help us collect the bags full of food in the neighborhood. We will meet in the parish carport on 23rd Ave. Look for sign-ups around the school to help with this fantastic project. Parent volunteers are also needed as drivers to help transport the food back to the parish. This counts for service hours!
Thank you!

Thanksgiving Day Mass
Please join us at 9:00 am
Take some time giving thanks, as you start your busy Thanksgiving Day. Bring
the bread (or rolls) and a bottle of wine (or non-alcohol beverage) that
will be used at your Thanksgiving table to be blessed during the Mass.
This also is the day we change out our Breaking Bead hymnals and take down
the banners with the names of the deceased and begin to put up our Advent banners
and hangings. All these tasks can be completed in about 30 minutes. Please
plan to stay and help if you can.
Thanksgiving Collection for St. Vincent de Paul
As has been customary for the last few years, the entire Thanksgiving Day
Mass collection goes to support the vital works of St. Vincent de Paul. The
Madeleine community has always been very generous in supporting this ministry,
and we know you will be again this year.
You are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food and toiletries to Church
this day and bring them forward at the time of the collection for the St. Vincent
de Paul annual Food Drive.
