A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Obviously the weather is the #1 thing on most of our minds right now. Susan is busy supervising the school's early closure and keeping an eye on the students still here for lunch, so she has asked me to write her weekly update on her behalf.

Thank you for your cooperation with the early school closing today. Please stay tuned to your favorite news source for updates about school delays/closures tomorrow. Remember that Madeleine follows the actions of Portland Public Schools in terms of weather-related delays and closures. In addition to the news media, you can also join our Twitter feed (see directions below) and monitor your email for updates. Please note that the Spaghetti Dinner has been canceled due to the weather. Stay tuned for the new date.

On a more positive note, Susan thanks all the volunteers who helped us hold such a successful Open House. We had more than 50 families come check out everything from Kindergarten through 8th grade and learn more about Madeleine. The volunteers did a fabulous job of showing the prospective parents what a great community we have here!

Finally, please be sure to read the great news about our Scrip program below. Everyone has really stepped up this year and helped to boost our numbers for this important program.  Thank you to Jolynn Mitchell for her leadership of the Scrip program this year.

Have a warm and safe weekend.  Enjoy the snow!

                                                                  Sincerely,

                                                                  Caryn Fiedler

                                                                  (on behalf of Susan)

Alert from the Police Department

In case you missed Susan's email earlier this week, here's a recap of the alert sent out by the Police Department regarding the inappropriate activities of an individual in our neighborhood.

The Portland Police Bureau would like to alert the public that in the past three weeks officers have taken three reports of a man exposing himself to kids in Northeast Portland.

In all three reports, the suspect has approached kids, 10 to 12 years old, and exposed himself to them as he stood in the street or on the sidewalk.

The victims described to police that the suspect would expose his penis through the opening in his boxers or completely pull down his boxers then run away.

The suspect is described as a white male, 20 to 40 years old, 5'9" to 5'10" tall, 170 to 185 pounds, dark brown hair, scruffy face, wearing a white t-shirt, blue or green boxer shorts, and dirty old running shoes.

These incidents have occurred at Northeast 36th Avenue and Klickitat Street, 37th Avenue and Failing Street, and 70th Avenue and Shaver Street.

Anyone seeing this man is asked to immediately call 9-1-1.

A Big Thank You To Our Open House Volunteers!

Thank you to everyone who stepped forward to help with the Open House and make it such a a big success!

Madeleine does many things well, but one of its biggest selling points (as you know!) is the community.  Prospective parents really enjoy meeting current parents who help them get a feel for the school.  Open House Information Night and School Tours would not have been as successful without the participation of the following super stars:

Julie Baldwin, Molly Briscoe, Lisa Colling, Teal Davison, Jackie Dooris, Anne Gaber, Mary Hoglund, Debbie Kielty, Tonia Kovtunovich, Armando & Lisa Luna, Ali McMenamin, Susan Miller, Emily Pennick, Libby North, Kristin Rios, Fontaine Roberson, Sarah Thurston-Sullivan, Anne Thompson, Kristine Thompson, Juliana Weis, Katherine Wilson.

Spaghetti Dinner Canceled Due to Weather
