Want YDP Summer Camp? Let Us Know!

There has been some interest in extending our summer YDP program a for a few more weeks until August 21st. Ms. Savery is open to the suggestion, but she needs to know FOR SURE that there is enough interest to support the program.

The proposed dates are June 15th through August 21st. We would be closed July 2nd and 3rd for the Fourth of July holiday and July 30th and 31st for the annual Haitian Garage Sale. Otherwise it would be business as usual, 5 days a week, from 8:00 until 6:00.

If you think you would be interested in enrolling your child/children, please give it some attention and take a look at your calendar. Details on weekly themes and activities will be forthcoming. Talk to Ms. Savery for more details and let her know what weeks you might be interested in. A final decision to offer the program will depend on participation.

Parent Ed Presentation: Children and Social Media

April 22 @ 7pm in Parish Hall

The Madeleine School Parents Club is proud to present Shawn Marshall, from the Children’s Program, on April 22 at 7pm.

His presentation on Kids and Social Media developed from the challenges that many of his clients and their families have experienced while navigating the intricacies of social media.  His presentation focuses on educating parents on a variety of social media sites and explores the potential negative impacts on their children.  He offers numerous recommendations to support parents, who like their kids, are dealing with the ever-changing social media.  He provides up-to-date information and statistics on the impact that social media has on the developing brain including sleep, academics, and physical health.

Shawn Marshall MA, LPC is a licensed professional counselor who has over 20 years of experience working with children and families.  He has worked in residential programs, community mental health, consulted with school districts and is currently at the Children’s Program in Portland.  He specializes in working with teens and has expertise in depression, anxiety, attention deficit, academic challenges, and oppositional behaviors.

Fun & Easy Way to Get Volunteer Hours

Do you need to get some volunteer fundraising hours in before the year ends? Mrs. Galash has been trying to get the beautiful artwork of the Madeleine students photographed and uploaded to our new account on Artsonia.com.

We need one or two volunteers to learn how to photograph each class's work and easily upload it to the site. You will only need a few minutes of training- it's very easy. Once we have a good number of collections saved to the site, anyone in our Madeleine community can browse our online Art Museum.

If interested, just stop by the library and let Alison Anderson know.

News from the Art Room

March is Youth Art Month.  It also means Spring Break.  I hope you and your family find great opportunities to enjoy art in its many forms during your vacation time. If your plans take you somewhere new, consider bringing a sketch book and pencil to your destination and make making art part of the experience.

When you come back, preparation for our Art Show will get under way.  Several parents signed up at Back-to-School Night to help, but more are always welcome. Volunteer opportunities include mounting artwork (starting right away) the big Set Up morning on Monday, May 4th, and the Take Down and Sort Into Portfolios day on Friday, May 8th.

Stay tuned for details about a new and very exciting way to show your support the Madeleine Art Program - an on-line forever art gallery is coming soon!

Enjoy your vacation and keep making art!
Mrs. Galash

Parish Hall & Fireside Room Renovation

Ongoing through April 12

As you may have noticed, the Parish Hall and Fireside Room renovations have begun.  Why now, you might ask?  This is the lowest period of use for this shared space.  In the summer, there are so many events that there is no four week window to do the work.

The renovations will include:

Anticipated Schedule of Upcoming Work:

Things to know:

As with any major home renovation project, timelines are subject to change and flexibility is key.  Things may get delayed or changed at last minute, so the patience of everyone involved is greatly appreciated.  Be on the lookout for updates in Friday Footnotes as well as email blasts.  If you have any questions during the renovation, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

St. Michael's Lunches

Making a difference, one lunch at a time

The fourth grade brought in 244 well decorated, St. Patrick’s day sack lunches this week.  There were lots of four leaf clovers, rainbows and leprechauns waiting for our friends at St. Michaels.  A big thank you to the fourth grade who reminded us to celebrate the day in a creative way.  I’m sure there were many smiles at lunch this week!

familyFamily Faith Sharing

March 22 ~ Fifth Sunday in Lent ~ John 12:20-33

As part of the Action Plan stemming from the results of this year's Catholic Identity survey results, a weekly faith sharing article is now being included each week in Friday Footnotes.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus talks about resurrection, “I tell you that a grain of wheat that falls on the ground will never be more than one grain unless it dies. But if it dies, it will produce lots of wheat.” These words are at the heart of our Faith. The grain of wheat is Jesus, himself, and it is His death on a cross that produces the “fruit” of everlasting life.

Think about someone that you think is unselfish. How have they made others happy by being unselfishness? What do you tend to “hold on to” rather than follow Jesus? (What do you need “to die to” or “let go of” to better follow Jesus?)

We encourage parents to reflect on these questions at home with their children and family.

Communal Reconciliation is this weekend

Sunday, March 22 • 11:30 am

At your Baptism, God forgave all your sins. Afterward, whenever you fall, God extends an embrace of mercy through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This year, we’re holding our Lenten Communal Reconciliation on Sunday after Mass in the hope that all parishioners will be able to attend. We will have additional priests available to hear your confessions.

Take time to prepare for Reconciliation by inviting the Holy Spirit to help you examine your conscience. Look to the past and reflect on the wrongs you have done. Look to the present and think of the bad habits you wish to break. Look to the future to see how you wish to grow closer to God and others. Please join us in this celebration of God’s mercy.
