A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I want to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope your days are filled with joy as you celebrate the birth of our Lord. The holiday season gives us many reminders to be thankful for all the gifts God has bestowed on us. Our Madeleine community is certainly one of the gifts in my life and I am so grateful.

                                                          Sincerely,
                                                          Susan

Christmas Program Is A Smashing Success

"Great, authentic program, kudos to our music teaching wizard," said one parent. With her inaugural Christmas program, Ms. Bjore has scored a homerun with marimbas, boom sticks, a string orchestra, the Madeleine Choir, and (of course!) the voices of all our beautiful students.

Recycle Christmas Cards and Old Calendars To Help Art Class

Don't toss out those Christmas cards or calendars!  The art department could use religious, traditional scenes, or nature themed Christmas cards (front panel only is needed) and old calendars with beautiful photography, nature themes, or art prints.

Thanks!
Mrs. Galash

Upcoming Youth Group Outing for 6th, 7th & 8th Graders!youth

Sunday, December 21st @ 5:30pm

Do you have the gift of song? Even if you don't, don your hats and mittens and ride your sleigh on over to the Parish Hall on Sunday, December 21st at 5:30pm, for an evening of winter fun!

We want to spread Christmas cheer to the seniors at Laurelhurst Village, a nursing home in SE Portland.  We will meet at the Hall, hand out caroling books, and we will then divide into car pools before heading out to the nursing home. Refreshments will be served at the nursing home after the caroling.

Fill out permission slips that are provided outside the school front office or church narthex, and then return them to available manila folder by Friday December 19th.  Some permission slips are already on file. Parents just need to provide a signature.  If you have any questions, contact Juliana at 503-287-0176 or  jweis@themadeleine.edu. Fa la la la la la!

Book Fair Raises $2,485 for New Books at Madeleine

Thanks to all the wonderful support, this year's Scholastic Book Fair has helped raise $2,485 for the school to buy new books and literacy resources for the library and the classrooms. We also collected $338 dollars for the "All For Books" Campaign to buy brand new books for The Children's Book Bank. Thanks to all the great parent volunteers, we couldn't have had a successful fair without them.

St. Michael's Lunches

Making a difference, one lunch at a time

The fifth grade brought in 160 sack lunches this week.  Thank you so much fifth grade families for taking the time out of this hectic week to remember our friends at St. Michaels.  These are great number and we so appreciate the dedication to this program.

Heard of Poetry Boxes?

Stay tuned to Footnotes after the holidays to learn more about how Madeleine is joining this popular movement!

Here's a hint: Mrs. Galash is involved, so you know it will be fabulous!

Faculty Room Auction Video

Now you can see what the critics are calling "the best auction video ever made." And if you missed its first showing, you definitely will want to see what all the buzz is about! Showing now for a limited engagement on our own website, see Mrs. Steele and Mrs. Rosebrook riding horses, Mr. Parker with sideburns, Mrs. Schneider chewing gum, Mrs. Galash with her fan, and everyone in polyester. Sounds like red carpet and Academy Award material? Check it out at here. (Please note that this needs be viewed on a computer. We are having technical difficulties getting it to play on mobile devices.)

Family Faith Sharing

December 21 ~ Fourth Sunday of Advent ~ Luke 1:26-38

As part of the Action Plan resulting from the results of this year's Catholic Identity survey results, a weekly faith sharing article is now be included each week in Friday Footnotes.

On this fourth Sunday of Advent, we hear a reading from the Gospel of Luke. Here Luke tells us how Mary became pregnant with Jesus. Mary is overcome by the grace of God and allows herself to become the human mother of Jesus. The coming of God into human form brings two gifts -- the forgiveness of sins and an intimate relationship with God.

What are some of the ways that God asks you to help “bring” Jesus to others? What gift of yourself will you give to others this Christmas?

Mary listened intently to the message of God and acted on it. What message have you chosen to listen to? How have you acted on that message?

We encourage parents to reflect on these questions at home with their children and family.

Kupcakes for Kids Fundraiser

Sunday, December 21 @ 11:15am in the Church entry

Why buy a Kupcake or make a donation?  CharlieT., fundraiser creator and organizer, says you need to buy these cupcakes because kids with cancer need blankets to stay warm and cozy.  The blankets help them through their hard chemo days.

100% of the proceeds will go to providing blankets for children at Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel.  $.50 cents a cupcake.

Don't have time to go to the fundraiser? Pre-order December 20th, and we will bring them right to your door on December 21st between 4 – 5:30pm.  Call Shannon at 503-888-0327 to place your pre-order.

Please help us out.  Thank you!
