End of the Year Fun

From graduation to end of the year class parties, it has been a busy week at Madeleine!

Have a great summer!!

Now Accepting Registration for Individuals and Foursomes!

Madeleine's First Annual Tee It Up For Technology Golf Tournament is fast approaching, and there are still spots available. We are now accepting registration for both foursomes and individuals. Go to www.themadeleine.edu/golf for registration and more information.

The format is a 4 player best ball and is for both serious, casual and novice golfers alike. Come out and join us for a fun day on the course!

Thank you for dusting off those clubs in support of The Madeleine School’s Technology Fund!

Questions? Please contact Brian Grant at bgrant@themadeleine.edu.

Thank You for Rounding Up!

Thank you to the 45 families who rounded up their tuition payment for the 2014 Annual Fund Campaign!  This equals a 100% increase in the number of families choosing to round up for the coming school year.

Our Annual Fund Campaign supports our tuition assistance program and helps close the $360,882 gap between what everyone pays in tuition and the actual cost of educating our students.

All donations are 100% tax deductible and will be matched dollar for dollar by the OCF Joseph E. Weston Public Foundation.

Ways to give to the 2014 Annual Fund Campaign:

On behalf of the 41 students who received financial aid during this school year, thank you for your generous support!

Tax Identity Fraud Update

In April the Archdiocese stated, "a number of employees and volunteers of the Archdiocese of Portland, parishes, and schools have been victims of tax-identity fraud. Victims' Social Security numbers have been used in fraudulent federal tax returns for the year 2013."

New information on the tax identity fraud situation has been posted on the Archdiocese of Portland website at www.archdpdx.org (scroll down to the red box on the home page).

Please read the updated FAQs to learn what the Archdiocese has been doing on behalf of your parish/school to assist employees and volunteers who were victims of the tax fraud.

Music for Life

On Tuesday, June 10th, the 3rd and 4th grade students enjoyed a presentation by The Madeleine’s MUSE Band and band director, Catarina New Martin.

A flyer will be included in their Friday Folders with details about MUSE registration. If a family registers before July 15, 2014, there will be a tuition discount.

I hope that The Madeleine students will take advantage of some of these great opportunities to experience music and enrich their cultural education.

And I want to extend a very sincere and heartfelt “thank you” for the past eight years during which I had the privilege of sharing my love of music with you. You will remain in my heart, and in my prayers.

Summer Reading at Madeleine

Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge

Our school is participating in a fun summer reading project: the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. The Summer Reading Challenge unites students from around the globe in an attempt to set a new world record for most minutes read this summer! We will be looking for the top readers at Madeleine from each classroom when we come back to school in the fall! Last year we came in 2nd in the state. I know we can win 1st place this year!

Studies show that kids who read over the summer maintain the reading skills developed during the school year. This summer-long reading campaign is designed to motivate all children to read more so they maintain and improve their academic skills.

Students in grade K-2 received their login information today in Friday Folders. Grade 3-7 have been logging minutes in class and have all of their information in their school Google Drive account.

Please click here to visit Madeleine's Homepage for the link to log minutes.

Thank you so much for your family's participation.

The Frank E. Beach Visibility Award (Division 12), Commercial and Public Agency Section

Congratulations to those who put time and effort into the roses this year, especially Michael Crocker and Father Mike!!

Send us your 2014 high school graduates!

www.themadeleine.edu/graduates

We want to recognize all of The Madeleine’s Class of 2014 high school graduates in our bulletin this June. Whether she or he went to our parish school or not...we want to recognize each and every one!

So, please go to www.themadeleine.edu/graduates and fill out the form with your graduate’s name and school. We’ve tried to list most of the schools in the area that our kids are likely to go to, but if we missed one, just enter it in the “other” field.

We need to receive your Graduates’ names by June 14 so we may list them in our June 21 bulletin.

Peace & Justice Committee collecting baby/child items for migrant workers

June 28-29 • Bring items to church foyer

The Peace & Justice Committee at The Madeleine, in an effort to help our migrant brothers and sisters, is holding a collection of child-related items the weekend of June 28–29.

With so much time spent working, and so little extra money, the children of these workers often go without so many of the things we take for granted.
Please, if you have a few moments in the next couple weeks, please search your home for any of the items below. Items needed are:

• Gently used and clean baby clothes
• New unopened cans of formula with unexpired expiration dates.
• New pacifiers in factory sealed packaging
• DIAPERS in all sizes
• Lovingly used toys
• Strollers
• Portable beds
• New baby bottles
• Jars of baby food—no expired dates
• Baby Tylenol—unopened packaging and no expired dates
• Baby wipes
• Baby carriers
• Baby wraps
• Clean and gently used baby blankets

Please bring your donations to the church foyer on the weekend of June 28–29, where the items will be collected after each Mass.

Cantors and choir members wanted

A special request from our Music Director Kit Taylor and Choir Director Becky Moore: if you love to sing, we’d love to have you sing for The Madeleine! We could use your help in several areas:

Cantor at 8:00 am Sunday Mass

This volunteer position requires no previous cantoring experience...you will work with and be trained by Kit.

Singers and musicians

We welcome any new singers or musicians to be part of any of our three choir groups.

Children’s Choir: All ages welcome, but the ability to read is essential
Contemporary Choir: This upbeat group sings modern praise and worship music

Classic Choir: Traditional hymns and arrangements.
If you’re interested in joining us, or just have questions, contact Kit Taylor, ktaylor@themadeleine.edu.
