Light Green Tips

Volunteer with Your Kids Search your local community organizations and message boards for opportunities, and then take your kids along with you (SOLV beach clean-up or even keeping our beautiful Madeleine grounds litter free!) Children will get a sense of pride in their community from making their neighborhood more beautiful. You'll also be teaching two lessons for the price of one -- protecting the environment and the importance of volunteerism. A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On April 2nd, the day that we return from Spring Break, our new Archbishop will be installed at the Chiles Center on the University of Portland campus. We will be sending our Student Council to represent The Madeleine School as we welcome Archbishop Alexander Sample. The installation begins at 2:00 and is open to the public. If you wish to attend with your child, please let us know. I would recommend getting there at least 30 minutes before the 2:00 start time.

Also, when we return from Spring Break, we may have a parking lot issue for a week or two. The Klickitat Bike Project is scheduled to begin construction during the week we are on vacation. That is the good news. The bad news is that both entrances to our parking lots will probably be closed when we return. The exits will be open, both I am not sure how confusing that will be with cars trying to enter and exit from one spot. During this time, we will use the circle drive in front of the Parish Hall for drop off and pick up. Cars should not be parked in the drive during those hours. You might want to use the side streets if you need to park. I know it will be a hassle and I ask for you to use extreme caution and exercise patience. The end product of a permanently closed off street will make the inconvenience worth it.

Another reminder……if you would like to apply for tuition assistance, the Archdiocese will be using the same company to process requests as in the past few years. Applications can be found online at www.factstuitionaid.com. Supporting documents need to be mailed in after the application has been submitted. There are flyers outside the school office to explain the process. Deadline for consideration is April 3rd.

Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Susan

Spring Grounds Clean Up This Saturday

It is time to clean up for Spring! We will be focusing on our North Parking lot this time. There are a variety of things that need to be done, from weeding and digging to pruning and planting.  Come for a short time or come for the whole time… 9am to 2pm. All and any help will be appreciated!  We welcome students! Students that volunteer will be rewarded with a free dress pass.

Please bring the tools that you will need, such as shovels, pruners, yard brooms, wheel barrows, etc. There are some tools available so don't worry if you don't have any to bring with you.  At the end of the cleanup session we need a volunteer to take a trailer filled with yard debris to Wood Waste Management, empty it and then return the empty trailer back to the parking lot. Thanks for volunteering to help make our grounds better.

What’s Cool About Our School?  8th Grade Ballroom Dance Class!

This year, students from four neighboring Catholic elementary schools got together and learned how to tango!  For eight weeks, 8th graders from All Saints, Archbishop Howard, Holy Redeemer, and The Madeleine spent Friday nights learning new dance moves and dance etiquette. The kids learned how to swing, tango, waltz and box step.  The instructors were fabulous, the price was reasonable, the music was loud, the dresses and bow ties were beautiful and lots of fun was had by all.  Hopefully, we will have a full house again next year!  Details will follow in early September.  For more information, contact Sarah Chartz at schartz@comcast.net.

Volunteers Needed for Middle School Dance

The dance is Friday, April 5th 7-10p.m. in the Parish Hall. We need 6 to 10 parents to Chaperone and monitor the exits.

The dance is open to all CYO middle school students, 6th, 7th & 8th grade, but parents with any age child are encouraged to chaperone.  This will count as fundraising hours for you. Volunteers must be current with “Call to Protect” documentation and background check. Contact Melissa Bauer Lindsay at 503.789.5204 or melissa.lindsay@bnwe-llc.com for more information and to volunteer. Find out details about the dance here.

Klickitat “Green Street” update

Please, never leave exterior doors unlocked! The parish schedules our door access system to unlock and lock for the meetings and events that are scheduled on the parish calendar. We are working to reduce the number of doors we are unlocking for each event to keep the campus more secure.Your group should use the main entrance to enter a building for a scheduled meeting or event, as we are working to remove side and back doors from unlocking for meetings. This improves safety for everyone. We are also working to reduce the amount of time that the doors are unlocked, most often the doors will unlock 7 minutes prior to scheduled meetings, unless there is a special request. If your meeting is cancelled, or if you have a need for the doors please notify Kelly Johnson in the parish office so the unlock/lock can be removed from the system.IMPORTANT: Parishioners and/or visitors should NEVER manually unlock the exterior doors with a key and leave them in an unlocked position. Please contact the parish office if you need assistance.
