Mr. Smirl is Retiring!

He’s been a familiar, friendly face roving the grounds of our expansive parish campus for nearly 13 years. Now, our beloved James Smirl has his eyes set on something other than the condition of the plantings, or the latest repairs to be made to our buildings. James is heading for retirement.
His last official day is Friday, November 2, but he has graciously agreed to be on call until he sells his Portland home and saunters off to his retirement destination of Arizona and Mexico.
“It’s a bittersweet time for us,” reflects Fr. Mike. “James has been such a fixture here, always available, never saying ‘no’ to any request. His positive outlook and friendly manner have been appreciated by everyone who has walked on our campus. We’re pleased he’s able to retire to a place he loves, but it will be a big loss for our parish.”
At James’ request, a public celebration in his honor is not scheduled. However, if you see him around the campus, be sure to offer him a big thank you!

Turkey Time Food Drive Nov. 12 - 16

Please bring in non-perishable food for the Turkey Time Food Drive to support our St. Vincent de Paul Society’s mission to feed the hungry. The food will be collected in your student’s classroom. Following the food drive students will be stacking the food in their Friendship Families.
Thanks,
Student Government

Classroom Gift Idea for the Holidays

If you are looking for classroom gift ideas for the holidays, the teachers would all appreciate an Apple TV to use with their iPads. Apple TV is a $99 device that allows you to wirelessly stream content from the iPad to classroom projectors for presentations and lessons. How about 2 or 3 families surprising their teacher with an early Christmas gift?

Second Graders Deliver 94 St. Michael's Lunches

A big thank you to the 2nd grade class who brought in 94 lunches last week. We also delivered 5 boxes of baked goods from Schwartz Bros. As the weather gets chilly the lines get longer and everyone at St Michael’s is very grateful when they see The Madeleine car, packed with lunches and sweets roll in. Thank you 2nd grade for keeping many bellies full this week.

First Graders Deliver 308 St. Michael's Lunches

The 1st grade class brought in 308 lunches this week! Holy Moly, that's all I have to say. A HUGE thank you to Polly Dugan to generously agreed to drive all those lunches down to St. Michael's for me today. Polly, Penny Petty and Wade Siegel had their hands more than full as they stuffed hundreds of lunches and boxes from Schwartz Bros. into Polly's crammed Volvo. Also, a big thank you to the 7th graders who were able to lend a hand while the 8th graders and I traveled to an early morning field trip. This is a perfect example of our small village making a big difference in the world. Thank you all, this school is fabulous.

Sarah Chartz, St. Michael's Lunches Co-ordinator

Only Two Weeks Left: Gift Wrap and Gift Sale

November’s already here? When will I ever have time to buy Christmas paper and gifts? Lucky for you, The Madeleine’s got you covered: the Gift Wrap and Gift Sale! There are only seven weeks until Christmas, and only two weeks left in our School’s Gift Wrap and Gift Sale fundraiser, so start collecting your orders today. Deliveries from the Innisbrook catalog take place during the first week in December, which gives you plenty of time for all that other last-minute shopping. But the best deals are going on right now for paper, wrapping supplies and chocolate, among other items. Stop by the Gift Wrap and Gift Sale display inside the School’s front doors to preview just a handful of the items available this year. If you have any questions, please contact Sara Allen at 503-282-6745 or seamagoo@hotmail.com
