Thank You From Our Auction Chairs

Dear Parents,
Last weekend was the culmination of months of planning the biggest party of the year for the Madeleine Community. We are honored that you came and enjoyed the evening with us. We truly love this community and are blessed to be a part of it.

Our goal this year was simple… to save money without sacrificing quality and fun… to throw a great party and raise some money for our school.
Things came about better than we imagined. With the help of countless volunteers the Parish Hall & Gym were turned into a Wonderland. The communal tables reminded us of the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and the Family Style Dinner provided by Simpatica was just the right touch to bring it all together with touches of “Alice” at every turn.

There are a lot of schools in Portland and many provide a great, well-rounded education. But, the one thing that sets The Madeleine apart is our community. We hope that you felt that special bond with one another as we worked together towards a common goal on Auction night.

We're happy to say that we met that goal with your help. Our Sponsors, Advertisers, Cash Donors, & Pre-Auction Fundraising efforts underwrote the cost of the evening and YOU gave generously on Auction Night surpassing even our wildest dreams for our Paddle Raise.

No matter how things progress in media and art, there is no replacing the real life pages of a book or ordinary brushes and paints… the foundational pieces of art & literature that stay with us for a lifetime. Thank you for seeing the importance of the basics and helping us fund this project that touches every student in the school, improving our library & arts programs. and building for the future. We’re committed to seeing this to fruition and keeping you in the loop along the way.

We’re incredibly proud of what we all accomplished together and feel privileged for the opportunity to serve as your 2o12 Auction Chairs. Our most sincere thanks to You for sharing in the evening, for opening your wallets and giving generously, and for the countless volunteer hours you committed to our Community.

Thank you for following us down the rabbit hole and helping us create an adventure in wonderland!

Auction Paddle Raise Supports Art and Library: Thank You From Mrs. Chambers and Mrs. Galash

Dear Madeleine Community,
I am beyond overwhelmed at the success of this year’s paddle raise for The Madeleine School. You clearly expressed the value you have for the arts at our school. You have given us the funding to better these two areas of our school for our students. We will be able to make the library a comfortable and welcoming space for all grade levels, and get current titles into the students’ hands. I will be sure to keep you updated along the way on the improvements we are making because of you. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Kate Chambers
Library/Media Specialist

Dear Madeleine families and friends,

Thank you for your outpouring of generosity and enthusiasm at our school’s Auction last Saturday evening.  It is abundantly clear that you value and support rich opportunities for your children in both reading and visual arts.  Students at The Madeleine can look forward to exciting new media (materials,) projects, and art experiences in the days to come.  Stay tuned!

With sincere thanks and appreciation,

Mrs. Ida Galash

A Note From Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,
I don’t know if I can add anything more to the glowing reviews of this year’s auction, Madeleine in Wonderland. It was truly a major fund-raiser and “fun-raiser.” The preliminary reports indicate a very successful event, with incredible generosity for the paddle raise going to Arts and Library. The other amazing thing was how our auction chairs brought us to a new level of efficiency with the online presence—websites, donations, reservations, communications, etc. all done digitally. We are “going green.”
It couldn’t have happened without the determination of our chairs, Emily Pennick, Karen Woodbury, and Angela Wood, to see this occur. Each year I worry about who will be brave enough to step forward and take on the challenge of directing the auction. But the Holy Spirit always inspires a few individuals to answer my prayers. I think Emily, Karen, and Ang went above and beyond to bring us to a new level of sophistication and effectiveness. Thank you so much for a job well done.

Sincerely,
Susan

Counselor's Column

Look for Mrs. Ullman's weekly articles on topics that will help The Madeleine community support each other as we work together for the growth and development of our students. This week's topic: Teaching Kids to Be Responsible, Part 1"

Classroom Gift Idea for the Holidays

If you are looking for classroom gift ideas for the holidays, the teachers would all appreciate an Apple TV to use with their iPads. Apple TV is a $99 device that allows you to wirelessly stream content from the iPad to classroom projectors for presentations and lessons. How about 2 or 3 families surprising their teacher with an early Christmas gift?

Hot Lunch Order Form Due Nov. 19

Download the form here, and return the completed form, along with your payment, to the school office by Monday, Nov. 19.

Bi-Racial Bone Marrow Match Needed

Madeleine Parishioner, Jason Crawley, let us know about a young woman who urgently needs a bone marrow transplant. She is bi-racial (half Mexican and half Caucasian), and it has been difficult to find a match for her. To help, or see if you are a potential match, visit: http://bit.ly/Q7Qby3

November Remembrances

During the month of November, we remember the people whom God has called before us. We invite you to write down the names of family, friends and pets that have died on a heart which can be found on the prayer table in the main hall. Paste the heart on the Banner of Remembrance. May we keep them all in our prayers.

Grant them eternal rest, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.

Kindergartners Deliver 150 St. Michael's Lunches

The Kindergarten class did a fantastic job bringing in 150 lunches this week. Our friends at St. Michael’s loved the beautifully decorated bags and thoughtful notes. They also asked me to remind our families to please label all lunch bags with the specific meat in the sandwich. It’s a huge help to us as we quickly sort the lunches into specific bins. Favorite lunches include turkey and ham sandwiches. Please note that bagel sandwiches are often hard to chew and are not easy to eat with dentures or fragile teeth. PB & J sandwiches are offered to those who want seconds after their first choice of meat. Thanks so everyone for all your help; these wet days are bringing more and more patrons to St. Michael’s.

Turkey Time Food Drive Nov. 12 - 16

Please bring in non-perishable food for the Turkey Time Food Drive to support our St. Vincent de Paul Society’s mission to feed the hungry. The food will be collected in your student’s classroom. Following the food drive students will be stacking the food in their Friendship Families.
Thanks,
Student Government

Final Week For Gift and Wrapping Paper Orders

Now that we’ve all returned from our trip down the Auction rabbit hole, there’s a bit more time to think about our School’s Gift Wrap and Gift Sale. In order to meet that goal, your order must be submitted by November 16 – just one week from today. Swing by the Gift Wrap and Gift Sale display inside the School’s front doors to preview some of the available items and flip through the catalog.
