Note from Susan

I am having a hard time believing that rain is in the forecast. It is a beautiful Thursday afternoon and I hope you enjoy your three day weekend. The faculty will be on campus tomorrow, hard at work on two topics. We will be working with iPad applications in the classroom, getting ready for the roll out of our iPad cart with 30 student iPads. Mrs. Chambers and Mrs. Langhus attended the ISTE conference in California this summer and they have much to share with their colleagues.

We will also be working on curriiculum maps using the Understanding By Design (UbD) format. Curriculum mapping has been a part of our academic program for a few years, but it is never a finished product. We are constantly reviewing and updating the maps as standards, content, and assessments change. Mrs. Slavik volunteered to be on the Archdiocesan implementation team for UbD, so we have our own "in-house" expert.

The Auction is fast approaching and I hope you have put the date, Nov. 3rd, on your calendar. It is going to be a wonderful evening with great items up for bid. Our chairs and sub-chairs have put in many, many hours to make it a success. Now we just need you!

Parish Affiliation Thank-You From Fr. Mike

Let me offer a sincere “thank you” to all parish school families who completed their Parish Affiliation Forms and Pledge Campaign cards this year. We were able to get 100% participation of the school families in the parish!
I know the meeting last spring where we discussed parish affiliation was challenging for some, myself included. But it set the foundation for everyone to truly understand our expectation of the support and involvement required to receive the benefit of a subsidized in-parish tuition.
This is yet another piece of building the community of God that we are all privileged to be a part of. Respectfully, Father Mike

Book Fair Volunteers Needed

The Book Fair will be held during parent teacher conferences October 24th-26th! We are looking for volunteers to work the fair. The fair runs Wednesday 2:00pm-8:00pm, Thursday 8:00am-1:00pm and Friday 8:00am-12:00pm. If you need some fundraising hours this is a great way to get them. Let us know the time that you are available. Feel free to bring your kids to your shift. Please email Lydia Emer at emer17@comcast.net.

If you are unable to attend in person you can still buy books online that will be delivered free of charge to the school in mid November. Find out more about online shopping, a new ebook application, and how to win free books at our own Madeleine School Scholastic Book Fair site.

Look for Mrs. Ullman's weekly articles on topics that will help The Madeleine community support each other as we work together for the growth and development of our students. This week's topic: "What About Rewards: Part 2?"

Fourth Graders Deliver 154 St. Michael's Lunches

154 lunches, that’s what the 4th grade brought in today to share with the folks at St. Michael’s. The bags were so well marked that counting and sorting was a breeze. I can’t tell you how much labeling helps us when we roll into St. Michael’s and have 154 lunches to count! We also delivered 6 boxes of Schwartz Bros. Pastries, RX medicine bottles, shampoo & soaps, chips, fruit and cookies. Saint Michael’s is very grateful for our efforts and any excess food is taken to the Downtown Chapel; they too give heartfelt thanks for the generosity of the The Madeleine School.

October Is the Month of the Rosary

October 7th is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. The rosary has been a major Catholic devotion for almost a thousand years. During the month of October, students will focus on the rosary and the Mysteries during Monday morning prayer services. Please remind your child to bring a rosary on Monday mornings. Thank you, Campus Ministry Committee

“Day of the Electronic Dead” E-Waste Recycling

Responsibly disposing of electronic waste can be scary, but not with the help of our Stewardship and Sustainability Committee! Bring all of your old laptops, cell phones, printer cartridges, iPods, DVDs, florescent light bulbs and Styrofoam to the “e-waste graveyard” collection site in the Parish Center after Mass during coffee and donuts on October 28th. We’ll take care of the old skeletons in your closet and apply any recovery dollars to future parish sustainability projects. Donations appreciated. Not in town that weekend? The e-waste graveyard will also be available 10/24-26 for drop off. Just leave your items in the graveyard in the marked bins.
