A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Enrollment for next year is shaping up nicely. Thanks to the generosity of many volunteers, we had a wonderful Parent Information Night on Monday and many visitors for Tuesday tours of the school. Special thanks goes to Caryn Fiedler for contacting and organizing the volunteers who greeted prospective parents, answered questions, and shared their feelings about our school. They must have done an eloquent job because of the number of applications that were turned in.  Also contributing to the success of the night were our speakers and hostesses, Lisa Luna, Tessa Siegel, Jenn Langhus, Isabel Turner, Lynn Robinson, Emily Pennick, Angela Wood, Angela Rosebrook, and Father Mike. Speaking from a variety of perspectives, they helped to complete the picture of our Madeleine community for our guests. Finally, I was so pleased to hear from many guests that they heard about the school from the parent community. Word of mouth is the best marketing tool we have. Thank you for supporting and valuing your child’s education by spreading the mission and ministry of The Madeleine School.

Sincerely,

Susan

Third Grade Auction Meeting Feb. 25

Auction 2013, Let the Preparations Begin!

Saturday, November 2, 2013 is the date for our annual auction.

Third grade parents, (but ALL Parents are Welcome!) SAVE THE DATE for our mandatory auction information party on Monday, February 25th, 2013 at 6:30 pm. in the Library.

Former auction chairs and school staff will give you an overview of what we need to make this year’s auction a success and a description of all the ways you can help. Our goal is to fill as many positions now and start the creative process flowing for next year.

Refreshments and appetizers provided. See you on the 25th!

New Library and Technology Blog

Mrs. Chambers has created a new blog to give you a weekly peek into the library, computer lab, and iPad cart to see what your children are up to here at school. The site will also offer resources, make book and app suggestions, and maybe even have guest bloggers.

It's Not Too Late to "Flock a Friend"

Our 6th graders will be at Outdoor School this year from April 7-12, and we need your help to get them there.

The 6th grade class is offering a chance to "Flock a Friend." For $20, you can have a flock of pink flamingos placed in a friend's front yard. And for $25, you can purchase "Anti-Flocking Insurance" to keep your own yard free of flamingoes! Download the "Flock a Friend" order form, and "Anti-Flocking Insurance" form, and bring them to the school office along with your payment to get involved with this "fun"-raiser.

Read more about why Outdoor School is an important part of our 6th graders' experience here.

7th Grade Delivers 195 St. Michael's Lunches

A big thank you to the seventh grade class for bringing in 195 sack lunches today!  There were boxes of fresh bananas and ripe oranges which taste so good on a gray Tuesday morning.  Thank you so much for all your hard work; these lunches go a long way to brighten up the day of many hungry people in Portland.

A Night in Spain...Tapas, Wine, Music & Fun!

Don't miss this chance to enjoy a fun night out with friends featuring wonderful food by Chef Aaron Woo and live Spanish music by Toque Libre.

Find out more here and sign up now while their a still a few spots open!

Catholic Relief Services’ Rice Bowls

Our parish will be participating in CRS Rice Bowl Lenten program, as a way to encounter Jesus through others, especially through the most vulnerable in our world. Rice Bowls will be available on Ash Wednesday in the back of the church. Please be sure to take one home for your family. Ask people in your life to donate to the CRS Rice Bowl. No amount is too small. We will collect the donations the weekend of April 6-7. Please consolidate your donation to one check made payable to Catholic Relief Services or you can donate online at crsricebowl.org. 75% of donations support international development programs, and 25% of donations supports hunger and poverty alleviation efforts here in our own diocese.

Living the Eucharist signups

A few groups still open—Not too late to sign up Living the Eucharist is a program our parish is participating in during Lent which provides us with opportunities to grow in our faith through learning more about the Eucharist, participating more actively in Mass, and Living the Eucharist each day as disciples of Jesus.
The response has been great. This year, we have more than 180 people in 20 groups...now all we need is you! If you’d like to sign up, s few groups still have space—so, contact Scott Baier, 503-281-5777 ext. 22.

Security committee being formed

A Security Committee is being formed with representatives of the parish and school along with staff, and it will work with the other boards and committees in our parish to make improvements and communicate policies. If you are interested in participating, please contact Kelly Johnson. Read more in this week's bulletin

Next Kids’ Night In scheduled for March 2

Information & signup form at www.themadeleine.edu/faithformation

We have a date...now you parents can have one, too! Saturday, March 2 is the next episode of Kids’ Night In. It’s a great night of food, fun, and games and learning for kids Kindergarten through 5th Grade.
Parents will drop kids off at the Parish Hall after 5:00 pm Mass, then pick them up at 8:15. You can stay if you want, or....you can have a Parents’ Night Out!
Dinner, in the form of pizza, will be provided, and the evening will include dessert in the form of ice cream or other treat. All this, for just $5! Much less expensive, and more educational, than a couple hours of babysitting, right?
Volunteers needed: kids & adults
We could use some more volunteers—about 4 more adults and a few more teens, 8th Grade and older to help with setup, cleanup and supervision. No prior knowledge or training needed, except adults need to be current on your Call to Protect.
