If you have information to contribute to the Friday Footnotes, please email the copy exactly as you would like it to appear in a Word document to: fridayfootnotes@themadeleine.edu. Deadline is Wednesday evenings, or Tuesday evening if there is no school on Friday.

St. Vincent De Paul Food Drive Starts 9.24

Please join us as we celebrate the life and mission of Saint Vincent de Paul on Thursday, September 27th, at the 2:00 PM School Mass. It is during this liturgy that we will “respond to the call to serve others” as indicated in our Spiritual School Wide Learning Expectation.

In fellowship with this great and good servant of God, we ask students to bring non-perishable food items (no glass containers, please) to their classrooms during the week of September 24th. These items will be brought to the altar by representatives of each classroom during our liturgy. Thank you! Campus Ministry Committee

Fall Teacher Wish Lists

Be an Angel Among Us and consider funding or finding a gift from the Fall Teacher Wish Lists. These are items not in the budget, but would enhance the classroom. Thanks to the many angels during the 2011-2012 school year, donations to the teachers' wish lists provided hundreds of dollars in classroom supplies! Earn your wings this year and join the many angels in our midst!

Contact Lynn Robinson, Development Director, lrobinson@themadeleine.edu with any questions.

“Madeleine in Wonderland” is just 6 weeks away!

Art Room News

Art projects are gearing up and painting has begun. If you have not yet sent in your child's paint shirt, please do so. Mrs. Galash takes shirts borrowed from the art room home and washes them each night as a measure to prevent the spread of any lice that may crop up. Please mark your child's name on both the shirt and the gallon zipper type plastic bag it will be kept in.

The Portland Art Museum is free to children 17 and under. Why not schedule a family visit? Ancient Greek treasures will be showing beginning early October with The Body Beautiful exhibit. Twilight fans will love the vampire exhibit currently featured in the Northwest exhibit. P.A.M. is also offering a free drawing workshop series for teenagers. Application deadline is September 28.

We could still use Altoids mints tins for an upcoming project. They can be left on the table outside the art room.

Called to Protect Training for Parent Volunteers

We will hold a Called to Protect training in theParish Hall on Tuesday, the 25th at 6:30 pm. If you want to attend the training at another location, the Archdiocese website has a training schedule posted. For those of you who have attended the training previously, you just need to complete your online training on the Armatus website. For more information, please read the Called to Protect flyer from the Archdiocese.

Counselor's Column

Look for Mrs. Ullman's weekly articles on topics that will help The Madeleine community support each other as we work together for the growth and development of our students. This week's topic: "Two Types of Praise."

Seventh Graders Deliver 173 St. Michael's Lunches

The 7th grade brought in 173 well packed, nutritious lunches today. Along with that we delivered many boxes of fruit and snacks left over from our Friendship Family lunch. We also delivered donuts from coffee & donuts as well as chips from hot lunch. Finally, we hauled in 5 boxes of scones compliments of Amy Boots. NICE JOB MADELEINE!

Please note: You can now bring in frozen vegetables and dried beans to help with the fall soup season. NO CANNED GOODS please.

Tech Club Enrollment Form Due Monday, 9.24

If your child is interested in joining our Tech Club, which meets every Tuesday and Friday morning at 7:30, please have him/her fill out the enrollment form and return it to the school office. The Tech Club is responsible for the production of Madeleine Morning News every Tuesday morning and other events that occur during the year. Mr. Armando Luna, parent of Amelia and Jean-Luc, will continue as the advisor. The first meeting is next Tuesday, the 25th.

School Grounds Clean Up Saturday, 9.29

It is our Fall cleanup time again! Most of the grounds are beautiful but the north parking lot and the areas around the Field need some work. We are also planning on placing a layer of compost on all the rose beds, including the new Centennial rose bed on 24th Avenue. Come for a short time or come for the whole time… All and any help will be appreciated!  Please bring the tools that you will need such as shovels, pruners, yard brooms, wheel barrows, etc. There are some tools available so don't worry if you don't have any to bring with you. Paper grocery store sacks would also be helpful.
Thanks for volunteering to help make our grounds better.

If you can donate, please call Neil Davidson, drive coordinator, at 503-288-3627 to schedule a time that’s convenient for you. Altar Server Training for New & Experienced Servers

Tues. Sept 25, 3:00 & Sat. Sept 29 following 5 pm Mass
For children interested in becoming altar servers, and those experienced servers who wish to continue, we are offering two training times next week. It is important that all altar servers attend one of the sessions, as we are adding new duties.
The first training time will be September 25th at 3:00, in the Church (enter through the side courtyard door) and will last until 3:45 for established servers and closer to 4:00 for new servers. Parents are encouraged to attend.
The second training time is directly after the 5 pm Mass on Saturday, September 29th, meeting at the steps to the sanctuary. The meeting will last 40 minutes for established servers and a few minutes longer for new servers. Again, parents are encouraged to attend. Pizza will be provided after the second training.

“Mad Dads” (and a few sons) Build the Rose Garden

Many, many thanks to the dads and sons who worked so hard to make our Centennial Rose Garden one of the highlights of our campus. Their sweat and blisters have paid off in a beautiful, thoughtful, place to remember our loved ones.
