Light Green Tips

Create a habitat! Children find the natural world fascination, so encourage them to get involved with putting up bird boxes and feeders, order butterfly and insect farms to pollinate your plants or even investigate keeping bees for your very own honey. The more natural wildlife you encourage to your garden, the better for the environment.

The Audubon Society of Portland offers tips for creating wildlife habitat in your own back yard, and even a certification program.

Spring Grounds Clean Up
Saturday, March 9th 9am-2pm

It is time to clean up for Spring! We will be focusing on our North Parking lot this time. There are a variety of things that need to be done, from weeding and digging to pruning and planting.  Come for a short time or come for the whole time… All and any help will be appreciated!  We welcome students! Students that volunteer will be rewarded with a free dress pass.

Please bring the tools that you will need, such as shovels, pruners, yard brooms, wheel barrows, etc. There are some tools available so don't worry if you don't have any to bring with you.  At the end of the cleanup session we need a volunteer to take a trailer filled with yard debris to Wood Waste Management, empty it and then return the empty trailer back to the parking lot. Thanks for volunteering to help make our grounds better.

Science Night Fun

Thank you to Ms. Yuhas and the middle school students for hosting another great evening of hands-on science fun. Parents and students got to enjoy making bubbles and slime, building science toys, and competing in the egg drop competition and boat races.

Greetings from the Art Room!

Your kids keep making delightful art.  New to View in the halls this week includes Fourth grade's Pond with Birds on Branches, which are not to be missed!  These little jewels seem to sparkle, capturing the look of sunlight reflecting on the water in a wintery setting. Kindergartners created big, fun fish that were colored similarly on both sides then stuffed with re-purposed shredded paper from the office and are guaranteed to bring a smile.  I'm certain these are all good friends of Rainbow Fish.  Joining the line up will be First grade's torn paper bird collages as we continue to celebrate some of Nature's most charming creatures.

Click here for more art news and examples of what your students are creating.

Please help! Part of the hummingbird feeder outside the art room has disappeared . If you have seen it, or have a feeder you could donate, our hummingbirds and Mrs. Galash would be very grateful.

Klickitat “Green Street” update

Starting March 25, 2013, the City of Portland will be doing construction on Klickitat for the bike path project. This work will require them to block the Klickitat entrances to both parking lots during construction. This is expected to last several weeks.
The school will be modifying its drop off and pick up procedures during this time. The City will post signs that we will need to enter and exit the parking lots from the other entrances not on Klickitat. Please be aware and careful as it’s likely to cause some confusion. We will keep you updated.
