A Note from Susan
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we close out the short week of school and move into conferences, our auction chairs and volunteers are hard at work finalizing everything for our biggest fundraising event on November 3rd. I am so thankful for everyone who has given their time, talent and resources to organize this special event. I always enjoy spending time with parents outside of the busy school day in support of our school community. If you haven’t yet purchased your tickets, I urge you to get them now as there are only a few days remaining for ticket sales. You can click here to be taken directly to the ticket sales page.
Last week I provided you information on a survey that we are asking you to complete as part of our compliance for our recent accreditation. I would like to ask you to take a few minutes and complete the brief survey. There are a few questions that you might not know the answer to, but no worries. Just answer Don’t Know. Here is the link for the survey and you have until Friday 11/2 to complete it.
Enjoy your long weekend and we will see you at conferences.
Susan

Group Bidding -- Go in Together for Big Items!
Have you always wanted to bid on one of the big ticket items you hear about in the Live Auction, but thought it was out of your price range? Well, the secret is to strategize with your friends before the auction.
Let’s say the dinner you have your eye on is for eight people. Pick three other couples you’d like to spend the evening with and volunteer to be the bidder for the group. Then determine the maximum you want to spend per couple. The night of the auction, collect bidder numbers from your friends, and when you successfully bid for that delicious dinner, submit all four bidder numbers to the recorder. Voila! You will each be charged for just your portion of the total bid.
Here are some items to consider bidding on with your friends:
- Dinner for 8 friends at Corzetti
- Whiskey Tasting, Dinner and Nightcap for 6 friends
- Nike Suite for 22 friends at Trail Blazers Game on December 6, 2018 (includes 4 parking passes and $100 food/beverage credit)
- Gourmet Kaiseki-style Japanese Dinner for 8 friends
- Four-course Dinner with wine pairing for 8 friends at Verdigris
- Por Que No? Tacos and Tequila Party for 12 friends in your home
- Mountain Man Ski Adventure to Mt. Hood for 8 friends on March 1, 2019
- Start thinking of a group for multiple wine tastings, whiskey tastings, rounds of golf, additional fun group dinners.......so much for everyone to pick from and plan!

Parents Guide
Social Media is very much a part of our lives. Whether you feel it is for the good or for the bad, the reality is that it is not going away. In middle school classes, we talk about both the good and the bad. We recently did a lesson on “haters & trolls” on social media, and also how social media is used for helping groups of people get their positive message out.
From the parent side, we need to do everything we can to understand these apps and sites that our children are on or might possibly be on in the future. That means you need to get an account. If your child is on Instagram, you need to get on Instagram and follow them. Learn the ins and outs of that app or site so you are familiar with all of its features.
I am kicking off this mini-series about social media sites and apps with a focus on Snapchat. Here is a Parents’ Ultimate Guide to Snapchat put out by Common Sense Media.
St. Stephen's Lunch Program
Ms. Witka's 2nd Grade class did a fantastic job this week. They brought in 259 lunches! As the weather starts to turn these nutritious meals will go a long way to helping those in need. Thank you 2nd Grade.
A reminder...we also collect and bring in mustard and mayonnaise packets. If you find a bunch in a kitchen drawer at home, please place packets in a ziplock bag and we will make sure they go to the right place.
Book Donations Welcome!
If you are cleaning out the bookshelves at home the library is interested in receiving your gently used books. If we are not able to use them in the library we will either donate them to a classroom, may try to sell them to Powell’s (and use funds for purchase for the library) or donate them to The Children's Book Bank. If you have books to donate, please bring them to the library and give them to Mrs. Chambers. Thank you!
Shopping for The Holidays? Your Amazon Purchases Can Benefit The Madeleine!
If you’re already looking ahead to Halloween and planning your spooky decorations and costumes, remember to use the Madeleine Parents Club Amazon link. This program donates a portion of everything you spend on Amazon to The Madeleine – and it won't cost you a single cent more! You can click this link to get shopping immediately, or you can read more about this “free fundraiser” here. The more you shop on Amazon using www.themadeleine.edu/amazon, the more money the school makes. The prices and shopping experience are exactly the same as the “normal” Amazon, but using that link earns the school a minimum of 4% commission. It’s one of the easiest fundraisers you’ll ever find!

We Need You!
Thank you, wonderful Madeleine parishioners, for your support of Maddie’s Cart! The men, women and children living outside in our community are so grateful for your gifts of clothing, food, financial donations, and yourself!
As the weather is changing, coats, hoodies, blankets, sleeping bags, and tarps are needed now. And even though we are doing laundry for many of the people we are serving, ‘street clothing’ (clothing you would wear if you were living outside) continues to be a priority. (A list is available here: www.themadeleine.edu/maddiescart.)
Please join us if you can on Monday morning (we gather at 6:30am in the school’s kitchen) or Monday evening (5:30pm) to share clothing, food and a warm smile with the people in our community living outside.
Care for Creation seeking new chairperson
The Care for Creation Committee is looking for a new Chair! This Parish Ministry brings The Madeleine community together in efforts to care for God’s Creation: the environment and all the earth’s inhabitants. The Committee’s biggest event has for more than 10 years been the spring Electronic Waste Recycling Drive. More in this week's bulletin: www.themadeleine.edu/bulletin
