A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the ’15-’16 school year. I trust you and your family had a wonderful, relaxing vacation and are ready to embark on the new year.

Many thanks to Jonas Allen, our Parents Club President, for spearheading the ever popular Back-to-School BBQ and to the many parents who helped set-up, clean-up and stand behind the hot grill.

Although I could not attend due to preparations for my daughter’s wedding, I heard our new Madeleine families had fun getting to know each other last night at the New Parent Potluck. Thanks to Caryn Fiedler, our Bridge Program coordinator, for organizing the evening and to the many parents and committee chairs who were in attendance to greet our new families and field questions.

Back-to-School Night

I know there are always questions, and we hope to answer many of them at our Back to School night next Thursday, September 17th. You can always email teachers or the office with specific questions, and I especially prefer a phone call for a question that needs more than a “yes” or “no” answer. The Thursday night agenda will cover the various means of communication that we have in place as well as many other topics. We will start promptly at 7:05 in the parish hall. Hope to see you then.

                                                         Sincerely,
                                                         Susan

Playground Update

Please Keep Off During Repairs!

The playground surface contractor has begun the repair work and requires that we keep people off the surface while it cures. Once he has completed the repair and the wear layer has been put down, the playground will need to sit untouched for a few days. The main playground should be usable beginning next week.

Please keep all children and pets off the playground until the caution tape is removed. We greatly appreciate your patience and cooperation as we complete this project.

AMAZON

The Madeleine's new program to earn money from Amazon purchases has gotten off to a solid start.

This fall as you shop for Halloween costumes and decorations, birthdays, and Prime memberships, please continue using the Madeleine's Amazon link. It doesn't cost you a single cent more, and the School earns "free money" each time you buy using the links on http://www.themadeleine.edu/amazon.

Thank You for Rounding Up!

Thank you to the 56 families who rounded up their tuition payment for the 2015 Annual Fund Campaign!

Our Annual Fund Campaign supports our tuition assistance program and helps close the $418,185 gap between what everyone pays in tuition and the actual cost of educating our students.

You still have the power to help us keep a Madeleine education accessible and affordable for everyone!

If received by September 30th, your tax-deductible donation will help us raise $25,000, which will then be matched with another $25,000 by the OCF Joseph E. Weston Public Foundation.

Click here to make a donation to the 2015 Annual Fund Campaign.

On behalf of all the students who receive financial aid, thank you for your generous support!

Goodbye, Mrs. Vague

Dear Madeleine Community,

I’m sorry to say that I am not returning to Madeleine School this fall.  I’m retiring and plan to address some medical concerns.

It has been a pleasure working with you.  I sincerely appreciate your hard work and  dedication creating the best learning environment possible for every student at Madeleine.  As a long-time educator, I know school involves a lot more than academics. It’s the respect we show each other that really counts, as highlighted in Madeleine School’s mission statement.  I have been truly blessed to have taught at The Madeleine!

Thank you for sharing your precious children with me. I look forward to hearing about their progress. I wish you all the best.

In Christian Love,
Barbara Vague
Past Reading Specialist at Madeleine School

7th Graders Praised for Their Performance

Four of our 7th graders recently had the honor of performing in a video for Oregon Catholic Press (OCP). Ken Canedo, our former School Liturgy Music coordinator who now works for OCP, asked the kids to perform his "Fish With Me" song in the video.

He said “Thank you for allowing [the 7th graders] to participate in the taping of the video at OCP’s studio. They did an outstanding job! They were enthusiastic and had terrific camera presence . . . the studio staff was very impressed . . .”

The video will soon be posted on the OCP website to promote their Praise and Worship music.

familyFamily Faith Sharing

September 13 ~ 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ Mark 8:27-35

In today’s Gospel Jesus and his disciples are walking together. Jesus asks them “Who do you say that I am?” Peter says to him, “You are the Christ.” Jesus then foretells the story of his passion and resurrection, but the disciples did not understand. Jesus tells his disciples to take up their cross and follow Him.

If Jesus were here with us today and asked you, “Who do you say I am?” what would you say? How does knowing who Jesus is help us be better disciples of Christ?

“Sunday by Sunday” Faith Groups forming

The Madeleine Parish will once again be offering the “Sunday by Sunday” scripture studies. We just need you to gather with a few of your friends, old or new, and read and discuss the readings for the following Sunday. (Even Fr. Mike uses this resource to help form his homilies.) If weekly gatherings are too much for your schedule, consider setting time aside during Advent and Lent.

It is time to order materials for the year now, so if you are interested please let me know. Marilyn Robb, 360-694-0528, or leave a message at the parish office. Thank you.

Congratulations for making it all the way to the end of Friday Footnotes!
