Faith Formation Programs at The Madeleine

Baptism

In the Sacrament of Baptism, many signs and symbols represent our dying to self and rising from the water to new life in Christ Jesus. The Madeleine parish community is present for the Sacrament to support and welcome us into a life of faith. In addition, parents promise to raise their child in the Catholic faith, with the loving support of a godparent and our church.

We offer the Sacrament of Baptism to registered parish families who have been active in our community for a minimum of three months.

Please download and print all three documents related to Baptism found on this site:

Baptism Class Preparation: Parents and godparents are asked to prepare ahead of time before attending our baptism class.  (This helps us shorten our class time).  Click here to view a presentation to prepare and to consider this important sacrament for yourselves and your children.

First Penance & First Eucharist

These Sacraments are available to all children who are in second grade or older. Preparatory classes are held during the 10:00 AM Mass. During Mass, the children enrolled in First Eucharist preparation will be called forward (along with the children participating Children’s Liturgy of the Word) and each group will be sent to their respective classes. Both groups will return for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. As part of the program, there will be one Saturday morning retreat for parents, a workshop prior to each sacrament, a family day of service, and a parent social with the pastor.

Our fun and informative class series is based on concepts from the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program. It is loaded with hands-on projects, thoughtful, age-appropriate discussion, and family follow-up activates.  Our goal is to lead each child toward his or her own experience of faith and relationship with God.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults — RCIA

Are you interested in the Catholic Faith?  The RCIA is the process by which adults become full, active, participating members of the Catholic Church.  The process restores an ancient practice of initiation into the church community, involves the entire church community, and focuses on conversion.  The RCIA process includes special ‘Rites’ which are celebrated over the course of a year and leads to the celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) at Easter Vigil.

The RCIA process is for adults who have not been baptized and for those who have been baptized within another Christian denomination.

For more information, contact rcia@themadeleine.edu.

To register, complete the RCIA Registration Form and the RCIA Sponsor Form and return to:  RCIA at The Madeleine, 3123 NE 24th Ave, Portland, OR  97212.
