Sacramental Programs at The Madeleine

Baptism

In the Sacrament of Baptism, many signs and symbols represent our dying to self and rising from the water to new life in Christ Jesus. The Madeleine parish community is present for the Sacrament to support and welcome us into a life of faith. In addition, parents promise to raise their child in the Catholic faith, with the loving support of a godparent and The Church.

Baptism classes are offered once a month for parents, and godparents are encouraged to attend! Class dates are advertised in our weekly bulletin. Please sign up for a baptism class at least one week in advance by emailing kristenkill@gmail.com. Groups of parents and godparents meet together to learn about the sacrament and to share in this preparation with one another.

For Children in need of baptism beyond Second Grade: Children who have reached what is known as the “Catechetical age” (about seven or eight years old, past second grade) undergo a different process for baptism, known as the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults for Children, also called OCIA for Children or OCIC. If your child is beyond Second Grade, eight years or older, and seeking baptism in the Catholic Church, please email lcraig@themadeleine.edu for more information.

First Reconciliation & First Communion

Registration for the 2025-26 school year is now closed. Classes are held from 9:15am-9:45am between the Sunday morning masses. Email sac-prep@themadeleine.edu with questions.

Our fun and informative class series is based on concepts from the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program. It is loaded with hands-on projects, thoughtful, age-appropriate discussion, and family follow-up activities.  Our goal is to lead each child toward his or her own experience of faith and relationship with God, while supporting parents as the primary catechists for their children. Please check back next year for more information.

If your child has passed the age for First Communion but has not yet been baptized, they will need to go through classes for OCIA for Children, that is, the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults adapted for children. Please email Lauren Craig at lcraig@themadeleine.edu for more information.

Confirmation

Confirmation registration for the 2025-26 school year is now closed. Classes are held after the 10am mass, from 11:15am-1:15pm in the Old Madeleine Church. If you are an adult seeking the sacrament of Confirmation, please reach out to lcraig@themadeleine.edu for more information.

Confirmation is a sacrament in which we receive an outpouring by the Holy Spirit and a strengthening of the gift of grace given to us at Baptism. At Confirmation, we are given the graces necessary to witness to the faith and to participate more fully in the bond we share with fellow Christians. Confirmation is a gift of the Holy Spirit by which we are more fully conformed to Christ. The Confirmation program at The Madeleine Parish invites youth to consider the big questions about life, faith, and discipleship. Engaging with talks from Chosen by Ascension Press, and connecting in small groups, students explore how the Holy Spirit is operating in our daily lives, calling us to an intimate relationship with our loving God.
