Faith Formation Programs at The Madeleine

Baptism

In the Sacrament of Baptism, many signs and symbols represent our dying to self and rising from the water to new life in Christ Jesus. The Madeleine parish community is present for the Sacrament to support and welcome us into a life of faith. In addition, parents promise to raise their child in the Catholic faith, with the loving support of a godparent and The Church.

Baptism classes are offered once a month for parents, and godparents are encouraged to attend! Please Sign Up for a baptism class at least one week in advance. Groups of parents and godparents meet together to learn about the sacrament and to share in this preparation with one another.

For Children in need of baptism beyond First Grade: Children who have reached what is known as the “Catechetical age” (about seven years old) undergo a different process for baptism, known as the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults for Children, also called OCIA for Children or OCIC. If your child is beyond First Grade, seven years or older, and seeking baptism in the Catholic Church, please email lcraig@themadeleine.edu for more information.

First Penance & First Eucharist

These sacraments are available to all children who are in second grade or older. Preparatory classes are held during the 10:00 AM Mass. During Mass, the children enrolled in First Eucharist preparation will be called forward, and sent to classes. The group will return for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. As part of the program, there will be classes for the families in the fall.

Our fun and informative class series is based on concepts from the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program. It is loaded with hands-on projects, thoughtful, age-appropriate discussion, and family follow-up activates.  Our goal is to lead each child toward his or her own experience of faith and relationship with God. Please see the registration form and schedule below.

If your child has reached the age for First Communion but has not yet been baptized, they will need to go through classes for OCIA for Children, that is, the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults adapted for children. Please use the first communion form below to register for these classes, and, where asked about your child’s baptism date, please mark “not baptized” and we will reach out to you with more information. You can send questions about this process to Lauren Craig at lcraig@themadeleine.edu

Confirmation

Confirmation at The Madeleine is offered every other year to anyone seventh grade and older. This sacrament will be offered next in the 2025-26 school year.

The Confirmation program at The Madeleine Church presents God as our loving and provident Father, Creator, Risen Jesus, and Spirit of Love. God loves and cares for us more than anyone else could, and challenges us to a responsible love for ourselves, for all other people, and for all creation. Our program aims to lead our youth to a deep, mature, relationship with God in Jesus Christ through the lens of salvation history. The goal is to touch both the mind and the heart, calling forth reflection, prayer, and active response in readiness to receive Jesus’ gift of the Spirit in Confirmation.
