Health and Physical Education

My name is Brian Grant, and I am the Physical Education and Health teacher at The Madeleine School. I want to introduce myself to you and give you a brief summary about me and the PE and Health program.

My background is very extensive in all sports, but especially as a professional baseball player and baseball coach. After retiring from playing baseball, I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration followed by the Master of Arts in Teaching Degree from Concordia University where I was a baseball coach for five years. Recently, I have been named as the Head Baseball Coach at Central Catholic High School. As a coach of over 15 years, I developed a passion for helping players achieve their individual and team goals each season. Teaching has brought out that same passion to help guide students in achieving their goals in the classroom, the gymnasium, on the field and in life.

As a teacher, it is my responsibility to create a safe and enjoyable place for students to feel comfortable as they move through the learning process. We will work together on techniques on how to accomplish the goal of creating a positive learning environment we can all enjoy. We will also work together on how to set goals and work towards achieving them together. In both PE and Health, we strive to learn how to incorporate a positive attitude towards overall wellness and an active lifestyle.

To ensure a fresh approach to learning in Health class, we will utilize varied approaches to the learning process such as technology, group learning, creative projects, as well as some of the more effective traditional approaches utilizing lecture, text, and worksheets. The curriculum will challenge the students to elevate to a higher level of thought about the material and may involve parents from time to time to help them in that process. In PE, the students are challenged to improve their fine motor skills daily as well as their overall fitness through a variety of dynamic workouts and fun games!

I look forward to meeting you soon.
