A Note from Father Mike
Dear Parents and Guardians,
There is an appointed time for everything under the sun. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to laugh and a time to cry. To retire is in respect of an appointed time.
For the last 14 years, Susan has served as principal of The Madeleine School with excellence and distinguished service. She has exemplified those Christian values that must be in every Catholic School: selflessness, service, compassion and love. She has maintained our Catholic identity at the very core of education at our parish school. No one has better articulated the mission, philosophy and vision of our school than Susan. She has been the quintessence of profound dedication and spirituality.
Under her leadership, Susan has accomplished so many noteworthy programs and initiatives that have earned The Madeleine School the reputation as being the best in the Portland Archdiocese. Two of her many accomplishments come to mind at this writing: the implementation of professional development opportunities geared toward students with special academic and social needs with the initiation of the Learning Loft. The other is the 2017 Accreditation team's compliment of Susan for a “superior” Catholic School, awarding a full six-year term with no revisits. From mopping floors, emptying trash receptacles, daily lunch duty and greeting students before and after school, Susan has demonstrated what it means to be an “unprofitable servant, doing only what we are called to do.”
You’ve shown us the way, now enjoy your retirement in the Peace of Christ.
Please join us as we celebrate Susan at Mass this Sunday at 10:00 am and following immediately with a brunch in the Parish Hall. All are welcome.
With Love and Respect,
Five for Friday

Join the Bridge Program!
Seeking Volunteers to Welcome New Families to Madeleine School
The Bridge Program creates a welcoming community by connecting new families with current families at the school. The goal of the program is to be a resource for new families and to help them navigate their first year at the Madeleine so they don’t feel left out, lost or overwhelmed.
Each volunteer will be assigned to one or two families who are new to the school. You will check in with your Bridgefamily at least once over the summer, during the first week of school, and during the first trimester. In addition, there are three opportunities during the school year to get volunteer hours:
- New Parents Potluck in late August (approx. two hours)
- Open House in February (approx. two hours)
- School Tours in February (approx. two hours)
If you are interested in being a “bridge” for a new family, please contact Jennifer Battaglini at jennifer.battaglini@yahoo.com.
