A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

They say the only thing constant in life is change, and we will be experiencing some changes next year at The Madeleine. Central Catholic High School’s technology lab will be the new home for Mrs. Alison Anderson. She will be leaving us to teach computer skills to high schoolers. I know she will build a great program there, and our future 8th graders will benefit from her incredible knowledge. Luckily Mrs. Kate Chambers, our current 6th grade teacher, has agreed to take over our tech department and library. Kate was in this position before she moved upstairs to 6th grade a few years ago, so this will be a smooth transition of responsibilities. We have hired Mrs. Paula Miller to be the new 6th grade teacher. She has been in Archdiocesan schools for ten years, is a member of The Madeleine parish, lives in the neighborhood, and her oldest child will be in our Kindergarten next year. Perfect fit! We are so blessed to have her join our staff.

We are also saying good-bye to two other faculty members. After many years of service, Mrs. Michelle Doran is going to be joining the faculty of Christ the King school in Milwaukie. Her two children are enrolled there, her husband teaches next door at LaSalle High School and after moving to a new home in Oregon City last summer, her commute to The Madeleine is getting close to one hour. I guess (!) those are valid reasons….we are sad about it, but really understand that family is first priority.

Family is also the reason that Mrs. Galash will be leaving The Madeleine. She has been the go to person for one of her aging parents, and it has been difficult to work and be “on call.” Plus her husband has been retired for a number of years, and he would like to spend more time with her. Ida has done a phenomenal job of developing the Madeleine art curriculum and bringing out the artist in all of our students. She has hinted that she would love to return when her life calms down. We will keep our fingers crossed.

I hope those are all the changes for the coming year, but as I said before…..the only thing constant in life is change.

                                              Sincerely,

                                              Susan

THANK YOU, MADELEINE!

What a day! 350 people carried water weighing 8-15 pounds on their backs for 5 kilometers on Sunday, walking in solidarity with the 1 billion people around the world who still carry water every day.  Our youth showed their strength and compassion for others around the world still in need of clean water.

Together, we raised over $10,000—providing 130 people in Ethiopia, Honduras, Bangladesh, and Mozambique with clean water and a toilet FOR LIFE! Instead of carrying water every day, more girls can go to school, women will have time to earn money, and everyone will live healthier lives.
