April 20, 2018

A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Looking ahead to the new school year, I want to highlight some opportunities to get involved in the life of The Madeleine School. We could not begin to offer the programs and activities that we have without the generosity of our parent volunteers.

School Advisory Council Applications Available

First of all, we need people to fill three positions on our School Advisory Council. This group advises Father Mike and me on policy and financial matters. It is a three year commitment, and the group meets monthly during the school year. Please click here to get more information and to fill out the application form. The deadline to apply is May 9.

Parents Club Planning Meeting

We also need some new faces on our Parents Club Board. The duties of this group are quite varied ranging from room rep coordinator to fundraising to hospitality to scrip sales to parent education. They also meet monthly, and it is a one year commitment. Alisa Pyszka has graciously offered to be the Parents Club Chair next year, but she can’t do it alone. She is gathering interested parents on April 26 at 7:00pm. Location to be announced depending on the number of people coming. Contact her at alisa.pyszka@gmail.com if you are interested.

Scrip Program Coordinator Needed

I am also looking for someone who has a special interest in our scrip program. Scrip raises approximately $20,000 each year in profit for our operating budget. I think that if we had increased participation and sales, we could easily improve the bottom line. How often do we go to Home Depot, Fred Meyer, or the local grocery store and pay with cash/credit card instead of scrip? I know I am guilty of this—except for Starbucks—I always have scrip for my morning latte!

We need someone who is willing to help with improving our marketing strategies and with weekly reminders to purchase scrip. New ideas and energy will help promote this program. You can easily get all you volunteer hours completed with this position.

Parish Affiliation Forms Due April 30

One last item….. If you would like to request the “in-parish” tuition rate for next year, you must fill out and submit a Parish Affiliation Form. Parish Affiliation Forms must be filled out each year and are due to Father Mike by April 30. I think the form is pretty self explanatory, but if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to give me a call. Click here to download the form.

Don’t forget The Madeleine Earth Day Recycling Events on Sunday morning.
Enjoy your weekend.

Susan

jogathon

The Madeleine Jogathon is only 3 weeks away! As most of you know, the Jogathon is the second largest fundraiser each year, raising money directly for the school's operational budget. We strive for 100% student participation in our fundraising efforts. If you haven’t created a PledgeStar account now is the time. Please remember to set up only one account per family. To get started, please follow the instructions below:

         Go to http://pledgestar.com/madeleine

When you finish, the system will email pledge requests to your family and friends, allowing them to make secure credit card donations online or pay by check. You will be notified each time a pledge is made, and you can track your pledge progress online. If you need assistance, please call 1-888-598-7510.

Last Week's Winners

This week the challenge was anyone who set up their PledgeStar page and sent five emails had their name entered into a random drawing for a chance to win a prize. The winners of this week's challenge are: Gabe S (K) ~ Ben B (1) ~ Maria B (1) ~ Louisa F (1) ~ Davis P (2) ~ Catherine R (6) ~ Grace W (4) ~ Jean-Luc L (7).

This Week’s Challenge…

Anyone who has either 2 pledges with money collected or has received 4 per lap pledges will be entered into a prize drawing. The deadline is Sunday, April 22.

New Sponsorship Opportunity Available for the 2018 Jogathon

Sponsorships at the $250 level have sold out! A huge thank you to last year’s t-shirt sponsors who are all returning this year. We are excited to offer an additional sponsorship opportunity for the Jogathon. Your company logo will be included on the Jogathon website and on an individual 2 x 3 banner to be displayed on event day. These spots are available for $150 and will be given out on a first come first served basis, so don’t miss your chance!

To purchase your spot or for more information, please email the Jogathon Chairs at: jogathon@themadeleine.edu.

Please help us in supporting this great event!

Friends, Neighbors and Earth Lovers! cleanup

Here is a chance to come out of winter hibernation, get a nice dose of vitamin D and do some much needed spring cleaning!

Fourth graders, Faye and Roxy are hosting, in collaboration with Earth Day, a neighborhood clean-up.

Madeleine Clean-up

Sunday April 22 - @The Madeleine

following the 10AM mass for 90 minutes

These young ladies were inspired by their teacher, Mr. Brian Grant, and a unit on pollution and decided that there is not only great pride in taking care of the places you love, but that it would be way more fun to organize something for EVERYONE. Please join us.

Faye and Roxy will handle the details ... you just show up with a can-do attitude, a love of Mother Earth and your Madeleine uniform! This also counts toward your parent volunteer hours, so if you are looking to log those in before the May 15th deadline, this is a great opportunity.

Yay Earth! Yay Teamwork!

If we raise $40,000, we get $40,000!

Whether you choose to support the Area of Greatest Need, Tuition Assistance or the Endowment, your donation to the 2018 Annual Fund Campaign will help the families around you who struggle to pay tuition. So far this school year, students at The Madeleine School have received almost $60,000 in financial aid.

Give what you can and know you have answered the call to help those in need. If we raise $40,000, the Joseph E. Weston Public Foundation will match it with another $40,000! Make a difference in the lives of those around you every day!

St. Stephen's Lunch Programlunches

Making a difference, one lunch at a time!

Believe it or not the end of the school year is almost here! I know this not because the sun is almost shining every day, but because it is the final lunch countdown for each class bringing in lunches this year.

Every class has one more shot to make this the best year of giving yet. It is within our reach to beat last year’s number of 8060. First grade made 155 lunches this week bringing our number just shy of 6000. Kindergarten, you are up next to Make a Difference One Sandwich at a Time.

churchWhat is a Capital Campaign?

When organizing and preparing for a capital campaign, many people want to know what a capital campaign is. This is not surprising because capital campaigns are not annual events, and they may only happen once in a lifetime for some parishioners.

The Madeleine Old Church Project Capital Campaign is about to launch, so capital campaign manager John Dillin took a minute to provide some answers to basic questions about capital campaigns.

A capital campaign:

Major? At The Madeleine, The Old Church Project has a Base Goal of $3.8 million and a Celebration Goal of $4.6 million. These are most certainly major goals.

Extraordinary? Every parish and school family will be asked to consider making a sacrificial commitment that is above and beyond normal giving to the parish and school. Yes, this is in addition to your standard tithe. Going above and beyond can be difficult and sometimes priorities must be made. We hope most families will see both the short and long-term benefits of supporting the capital campaign. As good stewards, we were taught to take care of our facilities so they can be enjoyed by those here today and those in the future.

Time Period? This campaign is asking for three-year pledges. By spreading gifts out over three years, donors can plan for larger gifts than they otherwise could by make with a one-time gift.

constructionConstruction Folks to be on Campus

A note from our business manager, James Wurzer:

In the coming weeks and months, as we gear up to begin construction on the Old Church Project, you may see a number of unfamiliar faces on our campus and in the school. We will have contractors, architects, tradespeople and more who will be testing, examining and preparing to begin construction immediately after the students break for summer.

As always, we appreciate your vigilance, and if you see anyone on campus you have questions about, feel free to contact me at jwurzer@themadeleine.edu or in the parish office at 503-281-5777.

Audio/Video Ministry needs your help!

screenWe are putting together a team of ministers to assist in running the video screens and sound system during our weekend liturgies. This is a very important ministry, as both sound and screens help to enhance our worship experience.

Both ministries make use of technology, so comfort with an iPad for the sound levels and presentation software on a laptop computer for the video screens are very helpful. (Similar to Powerpoint—you run the presentations that have been built for each Mass, and will not need to edit or create them.)

Interested? Please contact Rich Hammons, rhammons@themadeleine.edu.

Congratulations for making it all the way to the end of Friday Footnotes!
