A Note from Susan
Susan has turned over her column this week for a very important message from the School Advisory Committee.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Each year the School Advisory Council (SAC) recommends a budget to Father Mike and the Parish Council for the upcoming year. Foremost in our consideration is providing an excellent Catholic education to the extended community, not just to those families able to comfortably afford it. Since the cost of educating our kids is greater than tuition cost, we also thank you for your generosity during the fundraising campaigns throughout the year. The budgeting process attempts to balance many factors such as: anticipated changes in costs, the revenues needed to balance them, and the long term financial health of The Madeleine School.
The Five-Year Plan calls for continued support for our excellent faculty by increasing compensation against a benchmark of public school rates and cost of living changes. In addition, we anticipate higher utility, benefit, and healthcare costs. To offset these cost increases and balance the budget, the School will need additional revenues.
After careful consideration of the items above, SAC recommended a tuition increase that is within the guidelines in the Five-Year Plan, provides the funds necessary to meet important needs, and keeps tuition costs at The Madeleine attractive relative to peer schools in the area.
Click here to view next year's tuition rates. Please feel free to contact SAC at sac@themadeleine.edu if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Lucas Newman, School Advisory Chairman
SAC Finance Committee

Thanks for Parent Ed Night!
Hats off to Mary Starrs-Mortimer and the Madeleine School Parents Club
On Thursday night, The Madeleine School Parents Club hosted Shawn Marshall, a licensed professional counselor from the Children’s Program, who spoke about Kids & Social Media.
We all learned a tremendous amount about our kids and how their brains are impacted by screen time. In case you missed the presentation, here's an interesting fact we all learned:
Kids 6 - 13 years old should get 9 - 11 hours of sleep per night.
Kids 14 -17 years old should get 8 - 10 hours of sleep per night.
Thank you, Parents Club -- and especially Mary, for organizing this thought-provoking event.
Parish Affiliation Form
Due Friday, March 24th
Families who are registered and active in a parish may request a subsidy to lower their tuition rate. If you would like to request the “in-parish” rate, you need to fill out the Parish Affiliation Form, and give it to Fr. Mike (or your parish priest if you are registered in another parish) for approval. These forms are due back to the parish office by March 24th. If you have any questions about this process, please do not hesitate to give Susan Steele a call.

Did You Hear the News?
Claire U. was principal yesterday
Our "Principal for the Day" was busy yesterday! She started her morning greeting the students at drop off, helped Mrs. Rosebrook take attendance, offered advice to a few teachers and helped in the lunchroom. Miss U granted a "green" Free-Dress Day Friday and ended the week with an all school dance party! Claire's parents were the winning bidders at the 2016 auction for this item. Will you have the chance to bid on this opportunity at next year's auction? You'll have to be there to win!
Lost and Found
Please take a few minutes to look through the lost and found bin, which is located under the stairs leading up to the gym. All unclaimed items will be donated at the end of next week.
Mugs for Hugs
March 13 - March 20
Don't forget to bring in your mugs! Student Governenment will be gathering all donations on Monday, March 20th. Mugs for Hugs is a Lenten mug drive for St. Francis Dining Hall in SE Portland. St. Francis Dining Hall provides meals for the homeless and less fortunate. They are in need of additional coffee mugs. So, please go through your cupboards and know that your old mugs will be given a new life helping those in need.
Deacon Mike said they also have a tremendous need for new underwear. If you want to slip a package of new underwear in with your mug, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping St Francis Dining Hall!
2017 Annual Fund Campaign Kick-Off
Check out the envelope coming home today in your child’s Friday Folder (or stuffed at the bottom of your middle schooler’s backpack). A quick glance at the letter will lead you to believe it is simply an appeal for the 2017 Annual Fund Campaign. A moment of reflection, however, might lead you to realize it is an opportunity to help families you see every day at Madeleine.
Whether you choose to support the Area of Greatest Need, Tuition Assistance or the Endowment, your donation will help the families around you who struggle to pay tuition. So far this school year 34 students have received more than $57,000 in financial aid.
Give what you can and know you have answered another call to help those in need during this Lenten Season. As in the past, if we raise $27,500, the Joseph E. Weston Public Foundation will match it with another $27,500.So without further ado, grab your letter and make a difference in the lives of those around you every day!

St. Stephen's Lunch Program
6th grade did a tremendous job this week bringing in 186 lunches! Perhaps we could say 206 if we count the 20 lunches last week when two students got their weeks mixed up. Thank you 6th grade, St. Stephen’s and many other downtown organizations rely on our generosity.
Also, if you’re Spring cleaning and would like to donate the unused mustard or mayonnaise packets in your kitchen drawer, please bring them in and we will make sure St. Stephen’s receives your donation. Or, if you would like to donate and buy bulk, you can purchase them at Cash and Carry (Costco no longer carries these items). Thank you!
