A Note from Susan
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Yesterday I couldn’t get this Muppet melody out of my head…"It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights, ….it’s time to put on make-up, it’s time to dress up right, it’s time to raise the curtain” and then add on Bollywood tonight! Now you will be singing it, too.
Yes, the most anticipated event of our school year is almost upon us. Planning for this auction started back in January when four gracious people stepped forward to chair the event. We are so thankful to Jim Jones, Alyssa Pace, Kristin Rios, and Jeff Robertson for their vision, leadership, and generous spirit. Bringing us to this wonderful evening has taken many hours of hard work. The only people who truly understand this are our past auction chairs who have experienced it firsthand. This year Kristin, Alyssa, Jeff, and Jim are in the spotlight, but we are indebted to all those who have stepped up to organize our greatest fundraiser of the year.
(P.S. Third Grade Parents----We will see you in January for Auction 2016!)
Sincerely,
Susan

Thanksgiving Food Drive to Benefit St. Vincent de Paul
Editor's Note: There are two ways to support St. Vincent de Paul this holiday season: 1) Bring non-perishable food to your classroom; 2) Volunteer for the Door-to-Door Food Drive on November 22 (see next article for details).
During the week of November 16-20, all grades will be participating in our Thanksgiving Food Drive. All non-perishable food items will be donated to Saint Vincent de Paul, to help feed those in need this holiday season.
Each class will stack the food in their classroom. At the end of the drive each class will take a photo of the creation they’ve made. The photos will be posted on the school’s Facebook Page, and in the Friday Footnotes.
Any non-perishable item will work from canned peas to boxed pasta. In the words of Pope Francis, “Help one another. This is what Jesus teaches us. This is what I do. And I do it with my heart.”
Thank you for participating and supporting Saint Vincent de Paul.

St. Vincent de Paul Kicks Off Its Annual Christmas Food Drive
Calling all 8th graders: Junior Vincentian meeting this Sunday, November 8th, after the 10:00 Mass. Come to the rectory dining room for donuts! All are welcome.
St. Vincent de Paul needs “all hands on deck” for our annual Door To Door Christmas food drive on Sunday, November 22nd at 11:30 (after the 10:00 mass). No better way to embrace the true spirit of Christmas, than getting the whole family involved in this parish-wide community event.
We will break into groups, and go “door to door” collecting food for our Christmas Food boxes. Our goal this year is to service 90 families, which would be a parish record!
We are going to need LOTS of food, so please come help. We will meet under the carport for donuts, as we prepare to hit the streets!
Contact Lisa Hawkins with any questions!
St. Stephen’s Lunch Program
Making a difference one lunch at a time
The last two weeks have been quite successful in Madeleine’s commitment to help serve Portland’s hungry!
The 2nd graders made 193 lunches and an additional 19 extra sandwiches. The 1st graders must have been well rested after their 5 day weekend since they sent in 322 lunches, two bags of oranges and a few bags of Halloween candy. A special thank you to Teddy's family who brought in 70 lunches each in a gallon size resealable plastic bag. Now that the weather is changing, the bag will definitely be reused to keep some of their belongings dry. Thank you 1st and 2nd Grade!
Youth Ministry
Sunday, November 15th
Next Youth Group is Sunday, November 15th from 7-8:15pm. Remember to bring your Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes! Any questions, please contact Juliana at jweis@themadeleine.edu.
Looking forward, please put Sunday, December 20th on your calendar for Christmas caroling at Laurelhurst Village. This is both a high school and middle school event. We will meet at the Parish Hall at 5:30pm and depart from the parish at 5:45pm sharp! The seniors at the village LOVED LOVED LOVED hearing young voices singing deck the halls throughout the facility. Please come spread Christmas cheer again! Refreshments to follow.

Family Faith Sharing
November 8 ~ 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ Mark 12:38-44
The first reading from Kings and the Gospel from Mark tell stories of widows. Both widows were poor, but generous. And both believed that they were doing what God wanted them to do.
Think of a time when you gave something to someone. Were you generous with your gift? Did you give as much as you could, or did you give a little so that you would have lots left over for yourself? When you have money, how do you spend it? Do you remember to include God (the church) in your giving? If you were one of the characters in today’s gospel story, what would Jesus say about you?

St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Food Drive kicks off! Help and donations needed
Editor’s note: This food drive is truly one of the cornerstone ministries
of The Madeleine, with parish and school communities united to evangelize
as Pope Francis teaches up: by example. If you can, please help!
In today’s Gospel Jesus tells us: “I want you to observe that this poor widow contributed more than all the others who donated to the treasury. They gave from their surplus wealth, but she gave from her want, all that she had to live on.”
Ask yourself, “Am I only giving from my surplus wealth?” and then give
to the St. Vincent de Paul Society so that those who are suffering will
be able to know God’s love and care through your generosity. This week
is the beginning of our annual Christmas Food Box drive. Our goal this
year is 4000 pounds and the Altar Society members have kick started our
drive by bringing in 73 lbs. of goods at their business meeting. Part of
the poundage was left-over Halloween candy which we can include in our
food boxes. A good way to get rid of some calories.
There will be plastic bags available for your donations, and we will be
collecting foodstuffs up until December 13.
Volunteers needed for door-to-door campaign: November 22
St. Vincent de Paul needs “all hands on deck” for our annual Door To Door

Food boxes. Our goal this year is to serve 90 families—a parish record!
