A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I was at a conference all day at the University of Portland, so I'll keep it brief. See you at the auction!

                                                                 Sincerely,

                                                                  Susan

Night of Auction Schedule

Self Check-in in your Inbox

All Auction attendees should have received an email inviting them to check-in online. Our suggestion? DO IT! It'll save you time when you get to the auction, as all you'll have to do is stop by the Fireside Room and get your drink tickets and bidder-number wristband.

Group Bidding —Go in together for big items!

Have you always wanted to bid on one of the big ticket items you hear about in the Live Auction, but thought it was out of your price range? Well, the secret is to strategize with your friends before the auction.

Let’s say the dinner you have your eye on is for eight people. Pick three other couples you’d like to spend the evening with and volunteer to be the bidder for the group. Then determine the maximum you want to spend per couple. The night of the auction, collect bidder numbers from your friends, and when you successfully bid for that delicious dinner, submit all four bidder numbers to the recorder. Voila! You will each be charged for just your portion of the total bid. Enjoy the auction!

Silent Auction Sneek Peek

What do Oprah and Martha have in common with this year's silent auction? Quin Candy! Learn how to make candy with Jami Curl, author of Candy is Magic—Oprah's April 2017 pick for best cookbook and Martha's April issue "On our bookshelf" book—in your very own kiddo candy making soiree.

Think that's cool? This year we've pulled together a forty-five item silent auction preview to get you thinking. From vacation homes to kid camps and birthday party options for all ages, this year's silent auction has it all. This preview is only the tip of the iceberg, as there are over 170 items up for bid!

Click here for your Silent Auction Preview.

Register for a Volunteer Bidder Number

If you're working at the auction thank you! But don't think you have to be left out of the fun! Simply stop by the cashier stations on Saturday in the Fireside Room immediately before or during the Silent Auction and ask for a Volunteer Bidder Number

Check Out the Auction Catalog!

announceCool About Our School

Did you hear that all three Madeleine School MUSE band members have been chosen for the 2017-2018 MUSE Honor Band: Daniel (Trumpet), Zoe (Clarinet), and Noah (Trombone)?

It’s a big deal to be chosen for this group – in addition to their regularly scheduled practices and performances they will be playing with the honor band at Jesuit High School for a Christmas performance, Lloyd Center for holiday music, at a Central Catholic basketball game, and at Oaks Park in the Spring.

Stay tuned for their performance schedule, so you can hear your schoolmates perform.

Great job Daniel, Zoe and Noah!

artNEWS FROM THE ART ROOM

We started off the year with a variety of projects and art media...from colored pencils to markers to watercolors to origami to oil pastels...depending which class your student is in, we have all been trying out different materials and learning how to use them to showcase our creativity. Classes have been exploring Color, Line and Shape. Come down and check out a few projects on bulletin boards near the Library and Art Room. We are now moving into Post Impressionism with our artist-of-the-month, Vincent van Gogh.

Attention Middle School students: the Art Room will now be open on TUESDAYS from 12:15pm-12:45pm. This is time for students who may want to come in and finish or catch up to a class assignment, or to work on a free choice art project.

On a final note, a reminder to have your child bring an art smock or old t-shirt to keep in their classroom. Some of our materials are messier than others and it is great to have a smock available to protect our clothing.

Happy November!

Mrs. Groves

Dear Sixth Grade Parents,

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for trusting me with your children.  Outdoor School is an amazing experience and to share it with your children has been an honor. Their ability to try new things and push their boundaries was inspiring. Each day they exhibited small acts of courage. They came together as a community and grew stronger. The students represented their parents and The Madeleine well.  It was an experience I will treasure forever.

Respectfully & Gratefully

Gaila "Tamarack" Savery

Called to Protect Training

Wednesday, November 8th at 8:30 AM in the Fireside Room

If you missed the first two Called to Protect traning sessions, here's your chance! The next Called to Protect training will be held on Wednesday, November 8 at 8:30am in the Fireside Room.

The next step is to complete a background check. Come to the office and talk to Angela to request this background check and sign the required Standards of Conduct document.

For returning volunteers…..This year’s online video is called “Safe Haven” and it is produced by a new company working with the Archdiocese. Remember….. to keep your volunteer status “active” you must view this video.

You can click here for instructions on accessing the video.

New volunteers do not need to do this.

A few notes about this year’s procedure. You MUST print out the Certificate of Completion when you finish viewing the video and give it to me. Also, I found this video to be a bit of an “infomercial” about the company’s screening products. So be sure to “click” the box about receiving emails from them…..unless you like getting a ton of unsolicited emails!

lunchbagSt. Stephen's Lunch Program

Making a difference, one lunch at a time!

TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE LUNCHES! That's right -- 225. If this was a contest Mrs. Witka's 2nd grade class would be in the lead. Thank you for taking the time and decorating the bags with messages of hope. This week, the full results of the "Point in Time" count came out that is mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for funding. Oregon saw a 6% spike this year in homelessness. Every lunch counts, wanted and needed. Thank you.

Audio/Video Ministry needs your help!

We are putting together a team of ministers to assist in running the video screens and sound system during our weekend liturgies. This is a very important ministry, as both sound and screens help to enhance our worship experience.

Both ministries make use of technology, so comfort with an iPad for the sound levels and presentation software on a laptop computer for the video screens are very helpful. (Similar to Powerpoint—you run the presentations that have been built for each Mass, and will not need to edit or create them.)

Interested? Please contact Rich Hammons, rhammons@themadeleine.edu.

We have a few items still available for your purchasing pleasure from our recently completed Madeleine Uncorked wine tasting celebration. Order online at www.themadeleine.edu/uncorked

  • Luxury Suite: Blazers vs. Magic—Here’s your chance to see the Blazers from the beautiful Pacific Office Automation luxury suite in the Moda Center. Blazers vs. Magic. Ticket includes game admission and seating, and light snacks and non-alcoholic beverages in the luxury suite. $75 per person, November 15, 7:00 pm

Order online at www.themadeleine.edu/uncorked
