A Note from Susan
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Each year I say the same thing about our annual auction after it is over….Best Auction Ever!! And this year is no different. What a fabulous night of sights, sounds, school spirit, and spending! From our henna and sari adorned guests to the flash mob Bollywood dancers, this event had something for everyone. We owe a big thank you to our chairs, Alyssa, Kristin, Jeff, and Jim for their countless hours….then a second big thank you to the behind the scenes sub-chairs who also put in many hours of work. And not to forget, Lynn Robinson, our Development Director, who was there to provide the auction committee with the necessary direction and hands-on help so that the auction operation continues to build on its past successes and challenges. Well done!
But we also must recognize our generous guests who raised their paddles for wonderful dinners, adventures, and donated items, all for the benefit of our children. The Madeleine community, with all of its many stakeholders, values Catholic education and is willing to sacrifice to see that it continues in NE Portland. As the principal of this wonderful school, thank you for your support and belief in the future of this school.
Sincerely,
Susan

Bollywood Breaks Records!
While the final numbers are still being tabulated, it’s safe to say that the 276 patrons on hand for Bollywood last Saturday were overwhelming in their generosity.
The Madeleine Auction Paddle Raise record was smashed when $89,000 in restricted funds were raised for the Mad Science + Arts Wing. In addition, gross revenue was the highest ever in the history of the auction.
Congratulations and kudos to everyone who volunteered, especially Auction Chairs Kristin Rios, Alyssa Pace, Jeff Robertson and Jim Jones.

Thanksgiving Food Drive to Benefit St. Vincent de Paul
November 16th - 20th
Editor's Note: There are three ways to support St. Vincent de Paul this holiday season:
- Bring non-perishable food to your classroom
- Bring adult-sized socks for the 4th grade sock drive
- Volunteer for the Door-to-Door Food Drive on November 22
During the week of November 16-20, all grades will be participating in our Thanksgiving Food Drive. All non-perishable food items will be donated to Saint Vincent de Paul, to help feed those in need this holiday season.
Each class will stack the food in their classroom. At the end of the drive each class will take a photo of the creation they’ve made. The photos will be posted on the school’s Facebook Page, and in the Friday Footnotes.
Any non-perishable item will work from canned peas to boxed pasta. In the words of Pope Francis, “Help one another. This is what Jesus teaches us. This is what I do. And I do it with my heart.”
Thank you for participating and supporting Saint Vincent de Paul.

Sock Drive
November 16 - 20
In conjunction with the St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive, 4th grade is asking for your support to provide socks for the homeless this winter. You can help by bringing in socks during the week of November 16 - 20. Any kind of adult socks will do. Look for boxes in the front hall of the school. Let's help all those who are less fortunate than we are. Ask any 4th grader for more information.
St. Vincent de Paul Annual Door-To-Door Food Drive
November 22nd @ 11:30am
St. Vincent de Paul needs “all hands on deck” for our annual Door To Door Christmas food drive on Sunday, November 22nd at 11:30am (after the 10:00 mass). No better way to embrace the true spirit of Christmas, than getting the whole family involved in this parish-wide community event.
We will break into groups, and go “door to door” collecting food for our Christmas Food boxes. Our goal this year is to service 90 families, which would be a parish record!
We are going to need LOTS of food, so please come help. We will meet under the carport for donuts, as we prepare to hit the streets!
Contact Lisa Hawkins with any questions!
St. Stephen’s Lunch Program
Making a difference one lunch at a time
389! Yes, 389! The Kindergarten’s impressive first time out almost broke our school record of 409 lunches. Not only that -- they also thoughtfully decorated the bags and included special cards, bible verses, plastic flowers, stickers and “You are Special” Elmo Awards. Nourishing one’s soul as well as one’s belly. Bravo!

Family Faith Sharing
November 15 ~ 33nd Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ Mark 13:24-32
In today’s Gospel, Jesus says that His words will not pass away. Think of some of the words of Jesus. What are some of your favorite things that Jesus said? Why do you think Jesus’ words will last forever? What is so important about them? When you talk to other people like your family or friends, do you use some of Jesus’ words? How can you help other people learn what Jesus told us?
Music at The Madeleine
Music at The Madeleine includes 3 masterpieces and audience favorites of Baroque, Classical and Sacred Jazz music: George F. Handel’s Messiah, Ludwig van Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concert and the premiere of Michael Kissinger’s Jazz Requiem. Concerts are performed by the 50-voice Bravo! Chorale, Northwest Chamber Orchestra and nationally acclaimed jazz and classical conductors and soloists.
Music at The Madeleine is hosted by The Madeleine Community and created by Bravo! Northwest, led by our own Maria Manzo and Michael Kissinger. For more than 20 years, Bravo! Northwest has produced regional & international concerts including the Bravo! Vancouver Concert Series, Vancouver Wine & Jazz Festival, and Dubrovnik Jazz Festival. Please join us for our inaugural season of Music at The Madeleine — here in the beautiful Madeleine Church — where ALL are welcome!
Best of all, students age 18 and younger are admitted FREE with a paid adult.
