It's a Wrap - and Almost $5,000! Christmas Tree Rock

Congratulations and THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the Gift Wrap fundraiser. Our target was to sell $5,000, and with your help and the incredible energy of our students, we raised $4,864 in just two weeks.

First Grade raised the most -- $1,017 from 123 items -- followed by Fourth Grade ($830 from 98 sales) and Eighth Grade ($787 from 74 items). Even more encouraging was every class participating; no grade raised less than $125. Way to go, everyone!

When all is said and done, these efforts netted the School a cool $2,400. Again, thank you to everyone - including teachers and staff - for your support. We'll update you on delivery of the items as we get closer to Thanksgiving.

St. Stephen’s Lunch Program

Making a difference one lunch at a time

After a week away at outdoor school, the sixth graders rallied last week and brought in 144 sack lunches. Thank you so much for making time in your busy week!

This week the 4th graders came through with 238 sack lunches! The volunteers were awestruck when we showed up with so many beautifully prepared lunches. One long time volunteer said, “This is what I’ve always dreamed – all this food, and I get to give it away!”

And give it away they will. With such strong momentum and outpouring of sack lunches, our school is now supporting both the youth at Pioneer Square on Tuesday nights, and the Salvation Army Female Emergency Shelter (S.A.F.E.). Their mission is to “Empower women to move from homelessness to housing.”

Thank You Madeleine Families!

October 18 ~ 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ Mark 10:35-45

Two of Jesus’ apostles ask to be given the seats beside him in the glory of heaven. Jesus tells them they do not realize what it is they are asking, and then he asks them whether they can go through everything he will go through. They say they can. Jesus responds by telling them they will go through those things, but that he cannot give them the places of honor in heaven because those places are already reserved. Jesus calls the apostles together and explains to them that although the rulers in the world are harsh and demanding leaders, the followers of Jesus who wish to be great should be a servant and a slave to others. He says, “The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

What did Jesus do to show that he was a servant to others? How can you be a servant, too? A ‘ransom’ is payment made to rescue or save someone. What ransom did Jesus make? Whom was he rescuing?
