January 4, 2019

A Note from Susan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back and happy New Year. I hope your Christmas vacation was filled with family time and perhaps some relaxation???? I enjoyed being with my 5 grandchildren (and their parents) and 3 grand dogs!

Upcoming Open House

We are getting ready for the new school year, which begins in September 2019! Our Open House for prospective families will be February 4th and February 5th, with an information night for prospective parents on Monday and school tours on Tuesday. If you know of anyone who might be interested in joining our school community, please have them come or give me a call for information. I maintain that the best marketing we can do is “word of mouth.” More details about the Open House days will be coming.

Register for Next School Year

In today’s Friday Folder is the annual re-registration form for 2019-2020. If your child will be returning to The Madeleine next year, you must fill out the form and return it to the office. We need an accurate count of how many open spots we might have in order to register new students. Please take a minute and fill out the form if you know of your plans for next year. It will make Angela’s job so much easier if she can collect the form next week. If you have a child who will be 5 before September 1st and wish to enroll him/her in Kindergarten, please include that child on the re-registration form, too. Forms are due by January 11th.

The annual book and materials fee for the coming year is also due, but not until February 1st. (Get those Christmas bills paid first!) Please note that the fee increases after the due date of Feb. 1st.

Volunteers Needed

We need volunteers for both days of our Open House--- greeters, tour guides, hospitality, etc. If you would like to help, Julie Baldwin is organizing our helpers. You will find more information on how to get involved listed in this edition of footnotes.

Sincerely,

Susan

Sock Drive SuccessRMH

Madeleine Community makes it happen!

Thank you everyone who brought in socks before Christmas. The 3rd grade class collected 792 pairs of socks (WOW!!) for children, women and men checking into the Ronald McDonald House.

The students also made gift tags to attach to the socks during their Christmas party. Chase's aunt, Jessica Jarratt Miller, who is the CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon & Southwest Washington, came to the class to share how these socks are a part of every guest welcome package and how they are a warm gesture to the families that stay with them.

St. Stephens' Lunch Programss

Another Huge Response!

December’s ALL SCHOOL turnout was once again phenomenal - bringing in 960 lunches and 48 extra sandwiches to help volunteer organizations feed the hungry during this holiday season. We noticed so many of the sacks were decorated and filled with so many special treats to accompany their sandwiches. Your thoughtfulness and mindfulness to each lunch truly symbolizes Madeleine’s commitment to the hungry. This year we have DOUBLED our numbers. So far our school has delivered 5116 lunches. Let’s write that again….5116…..GO BULLDOGS!

Girls on the Run

10 Week Program - Grades 3-5

This spring, The Madeleine School is hosting a Girls on the Run team. Girls on the Run is a positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-5th grade. Twice per week for 10 weeks, girls will have fun, make friends, increase their physical activity levels and learn important life skills. Trained coaches lead girls through interactive lessons and running activities.

The team will meet at Madeleine on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm to 5:30pm starting March 5 and run until May 23. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-5th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.
