A Note from Susan
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Ah, a three day weekend! For me, that translates to a few extra hours of sleep. As a person who is still recovering from a family–packed Christmas vacation and weekend wedding in Spokane, I am looking forward to three days of sleeping in past 5:30am.
Re-Registration Forms
Thank you to the many parents who returned their ’16-’17 re-registration form this week. It really makes Mrs. Rosebrook’s life easier to have this information early….rather than the day before Open House! We are getting calls for openings, and we need accurate information to build our enrollment rosters. So, once again, thank you for returning the form. Please note that the book/materials fee of $200 is not due until January 31st, so the form can be returned without the check. The fee increases to $250 after February 1st.
Open House – Spread the Word
If you know of someone who might be interested in attending The Madeleine School, please tell him or her about our upcoming Open House events. On Monday, February 1st, we will have a Parent Information Night in the Parish Hall at 7:00pm, and on Tuesday, February 2nd the school will be open between 10am and 1pm for tours.
We will tell them all about the wonderful Madeleine community—our curriculum, our programs, our teachers, our organizations—everything that makes us unique. However, you need to do the same thing because “word of mouth” advertising is the best way to grow our school and continue our mission of educating the whole child.
My job is so much easier when the prospective family knows one of our families, and they have shared their positive experiences. Telling The Madeleine School “story” is one of the best parts of my job and one of the easiest. So let all your friends and neighbors know about the great thing we have here at The Madeleine.
By the way, our Kindergarten sibling count appears to be “normal” this year so we should be able to welcome many new families to this class. But wait, there’s more…..we do not have a wait list for next year’s first grade, so we will be able to welcome 5 new families to that class, too. Spread the word!
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Susan

Participants from The Madeleine School this year were: 7th Graders Oskar B., Alex F., Gus G. and Aine G.; and 8th Graders Bailey B., Ian H., Atticus K., Molly W.

Fire Prevention Presentation
January 28 @ 7pm in Parish Hall
You are not ready. You think you are, but every second counts.
Does everyone in your family know what to do in the event of a fire in your home?
A home fire can happen to you. Just ask Madeleine parent Kysa Kelleher, whose family avoided injury and prevented major damage by following their plan, however, it was still hectic with six kids, 2 dogs, a rainy night and dinner time.
Join us Thursday, January 28, at 7pm in the Parish Hall for a FREE valuable home fire prevention, awareness and survival presentation by Portland firefighters from Station 13. You’ll learn how to develop a plan and prepare your family and home for any fire emergency. You’ll also get valuable tips to reduce the chance of a fire in the first place.
Beverages and snacks will be provided. Parents and middle schoolers are encouraged to attend.

Pennies For The Poor: Start Saving Your Coins
February 1 - February 4
During Catholic Schools Week, Student Government is holding their annual Pennies for the Poor. During this event, classes compete to see how much money they can raise. Any silver coins (e.g. nickels, quarters) will lower the “score” of the class, while anything else (pennies, paper money, etc.) will raise the score. All money raised by all of the classes (silver or otherwise) will go to the Church of St. Andre Bessette. Have fun!
St. Stephen's Lunch Program
Making a difference, one lunch at a time
Welcome back and Happy New Year! 2016 began with the 3rd grade contributing 198 sack lunches! Thank you so much for such an awesome turnout. Did you know that the volunteers who pass out the lunches are homeless themselves? The same men hand them out each week, and they wanted me to let you all know that they truly appreciate this opportunity to give back and make people smile. So thank you!
Family Faith Sharing
January 17 ~ Second Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ John 2:1-11
In this Gospel, Mary the mother of our Lord, realizes that the host of a wedding party is running out of wine. She asks Jesus to do something about it, and then tells the servants that they should do whatever he tells them to do. Jesus tells the servants to fill the water jars with water, and then performs a miracle by turning all the water into wine. Do you do what Jesus tells you to do? Why or why not? Do you follow all his commandments? Or do you pick and choose? Have you ever asked Mary to intercede for you to Her son Jesus? If you have done this, talk about that time and what happened.

Our world-famous and uber-popular Faith Sharing Groups are preparing to
launch the first week of Lent. We’re having sign-ups after Mass this weekend

Faith Sharing Groups give you the opportunity to meet fellow parishioners
in small groups, to discuss upcoming Mass readings with the help of an
easy to use guide, and most importantly, to take just an hour each week
to focus on the wonderful invitation from God to be in deeper relationship.
Groups meet at many different times, days and locations—so it will be easy
for you to make the time in your schedule (we’re providing child care for
some meetings as well). Please sign up after Mass, online at www.themadeleine.edu/groups, or call
the parish office.
